Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Kemble.
Hi Gabriel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My accounting career began in 2012. I wasn’t interested in pursuing my engineering degree further, but I knew I wanted something that could provide a lifestyle I would be interested in living. I worked for a few years at a non-profit in downtown Cleveland before transitioning into public accounting. After a short stint in public, I focused on tax work in more specific industries and areas I found interesting. After spending several years working in those fields, I decided to invest my skills into my community. I’m now on my second year and the feedback has been fantastic!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardest part in starting your tax firm is trusting yourself and believing that you have the skills that are necessary to provide value to your clients. I’ve never had to worry about marketing, social media, or IT work. Now that I wear all the hats, it’s been a challenge to work outside my skills and comfort zone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My firm focuses on tax preparation, tax planning, and fractional CFO work. I have one other partner with multiple areas of expertise and we are able to handle both simple and complex tax items. Our firm is has added expertise regarding non-profit tax work and additional filings, such as 990-T forms, due to the specialized background of our firm. I’ve been most proud of our work with veterans organizations and being able to not only sponsor their work but also to provide accounting services to fill their needs.
What does success mean to you?
I don’t believe success is singular, but a path upon which you build many smaller successes into an overall level of success. For example, some of my smaller successes would be retaining my first client, signing my first contract for long term work, and for being profitable enough to enter our second year of business.
