Exploring Life & Business with Dustin Fatch of Marketing Done Right

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Fatch.

Hi Dustin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my business eight years ago with a specific mission: to help companies bridge the gap between their brand and their customers through effective inbound marketing. At the time, I was living in Southern California, but a move to Cleveland for my wife’s Ph.D. in Immunotherapy and Cancer Research gave me a fresh perspective and a new market to serve.

My work centers on driving revenue through high-impact digital strategies like SEO, Google Ads, and the emerging world of AI Chat. One of the highlights of my time in Ohio has been the spirit of collaboration; I’ve partnered with several local agencies, including the Summit Collective, to ensure small and mid-sized businesses have access to the same high-quality marketing tools as the big players.

Outside of work, I’m a student of history and leadership and a massive fan of Science Fiction and Fantasy. I’m also an avid backpacker, though these days my ‘treks’ look a little different as I navigate life with a 2.5-year-old and a 7-month-old. Moving to Cleveland was one of the best decisions we ever made, both for my family and my career.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges are exactly what made the progress so rewarding. Building a business is rarely a straight line, and for me, those ‘curves’ in the road usually came with steep learning curves.

One of the most humbling aspects was my own transition. I came from a sales background, and I initially thought that would translate effortlessly into marketing. I was quickly humbled by the sheer volume of work, technical precision, and strategic patience it takes to do inbound marketing well. It’s one thing to close a deal; it’s another to build an automated engine that consistently generates them.

Beyond the technical side, the logistical hurdles were significant:

Navigating the Pandemic: Like many, we had to pivot and fight through the uncertainty of COVID-19 right as the business was finding its footing.

The Scaling Phase: Growing the team to 25 employees was a massive milestone, but it also brought the weight of responsibility for those individuals and their families. Learning to lead at that scale is a different beast entirely.

The Balancing Act: Doing all of this while starting a family, navigating the ‘sleepless newborn’ phase, and keeping a high-growth business on track has been the ultimate test of time management and priorities.

It hasn’t always been easy, but looking back at the 25-person team we’ve built and the revenue we’ve generated for our clients, I wouldn’t trade the hard years for anything. It’s the friction that makes the result worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Marketing Done Right. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our Mission: Growth with a Purpose
At its core, my business is about one thing: helping businesses grow by turning digital intent into tangible revenue. We specialize in inbound marketing, but we do it with a level of technical depth and cost effectiveness that is often hard for small and mid-sized businesses to find.

What We Specialize In
We are known for our expertise in Search Engine Marketing (SEM). While many people are familiar with traditional SEO, we have evolved with the landscape to include GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). As AI chat and voice search change how people find information, we ensure our clients stay ahead of the curve. Whether it’s through organic search or paid platforms like Google and Bing Ads, our focus is always on ‘bottom of the funnel’ lead generation. We don’t just chase clicks; we find the people who are most likely to engage with and purchase our clients’ services right now.

What Sets Us Apart
Beyond our technical results, what truly defines us is our commitment to our community and our values. We believe that a successful business should be a force for good. That’s why a significant portion of our proceeds goes toward supporting Breakthrough T1D, aiding research for Type 1 Diabetes cures, and Open Arms Adoptions, helping provide children with the gateway to a loving home. For us, success isn’t just measured by a balance sheet—it’s measured by the impact we can make on families and the future.

What I Want Readers to Know
I am incredibly proud of our brand’s track record. We don’t just act as a third-party vendor; we become an integral part of our clients’ teams. This partnership-first approach has led to an exceptionally high retention rate. In fact, almost all of the clients who started with us eight years ago are still with us today. When you work with us, you’re gaining a partner who is as invested in your long-term growth as you are.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think there’s a common stereotype that marketing agency owners are all about the ‘flash’ (the high-end cars, the expensive suits, and a certain luxury-obsessed lifestyle). People are often surprised to find that I am the exact opposite of that.

Despite running a business that lives on the cutting edge of AI Chat and search algorithms, I’m a very ‘low-tech’ person at heart. I don’t have much interest in high-end material things; instead, I’m driven by much more humble, grounded pursuits.

Most people don’t realize that if I’m not at my desk, I’m likely:

Off the grid: Somewhere on a trail with a backpack, enjoying the silence of nature.

Lost in a book: Usually deep into a Science Fiction epic or a dense history of leadership.

Traveling: Exploring new cultures and international perspectives with my family.

Focused on impact: Thinking about how we can increase our support for Breakthrough T1D and Open Arms Adoptions.

I’ve always felt that my love for nature and simple living gives me a clearer perspective on business. It reminds me that at the other end of every Google Ad or AI Chatbot is a real person with a real story. Staying grounded helps me keep our marketing human, even when we’re using the most advanced technology available.
