Exploring Life & Business with Desiree Osei-Bobie of Fine Gold Locs LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Osei-Bobie.

Desiree, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began in 2020, just as I found out I was expecting my first daughter. At that time, I had already been on my personal Loc journey for four years. In 2021, the idea of becoming a Loctician was introduced to me. After much thought, I decided to take a leap of faith—learning the art of interlocking and diving deeper into the beauty and science of culturally rich, kinky, and curly hair.

As I gained knowledge and experience, I realized that this was more than just a skill—it was an assignment. I felt called to become a vessel of healing and education, helping others embrace the beauty and uniqueness of hair locking. Today, I have the honor of teaching students and serving clients through a holistic approach that honors our natural texture without the use of chemicals, hot tools, or excessive styling.

I am passionate about showing others that there is hope for their hair—that when you allow your hair to do what it was naturally designed to do, it becomes your Fine Gold.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—my journey has been anything but smooth. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced a number of challenges early on, especially when it came to the business side of things. I wasn’t very business savvy in the beginning, and that lack of knowledge led to some hard lessons. There were moments where I made decisions that almost jeopardized everything I had worked so hard to build.

But instead of letting those setbacks break me, I chose to see them as opportunities for growth. I took the same energy that was trying to tear me down and redirected it into building a stronger foundation for my business. Through resilience, prayer, and a willingness to learn, I became more confident, more strategic, and more determined.

Every challenge taught me something valuable—not just about running a business, but about myself, my purpose, and the people I’m called to serve. Those rough patches made me stronger and more rooted in my mission.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on this journey is that faith, consistency, and self-belief will carry you further than fear ever will. In the beginning, I doubted myself often—questioning whether I was qualified enough, experienced enough, or ready to lead. I didn’t have all the answers, and at times I felt like I was figuring things out as I went. But I kept showing up, learning from my mistakes, and leaning into my purpose.

I also learned that business isn’t just about skill—it’s about mindset, boundaries, and resilience. There were moments when challenges felt overwhelming, but each obstacle taught me to stay rooted in my “why.” I had to learn to trust my vision, even when things didn’t go as planned, and to understand that growth often happens in the most uncomfortable seasons.

Most of all, I’ve learned that serving others with integrity and love will always make room for your gifts. That’s the heartbeat of Fine Gold Locs—and it continues to guide everything I do.
