Exploring Life & Business with Chris Hoffman of Humanity Link

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Hoffman

Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in a small town in Ohio, I discovered my passion for solving problems early on. As a Boy Scout I actively sought solutions to community issues. This early commitment to making a difference inspired my global educational pursuits, beginning with living among missionaries in Zimbabwe at the age of 13. My experiences broadened as I moved to Brazil to work with indigenous children and later to Mozambique, where I was part of the team establishing a school for adolescent orphans. These formative years were deeply supported by my hometown, nurturing my resolve to address global challenges.

After completing university, I turned my grassroots initiatives into a professional pathway by joining the U.S. Peace Corps in 1999, followed by a position at the United Nations. My career has been dedicated to managing responses to various global emergencies, from natural disasters to conflicts, including coordinating critical evacuations in Afghanistan. These experiences reinforced my deep-seated desire to help those in dire situations.

Recognizing a significant gap in the traditional approaches to humanitarian aid, I founded Humanity Link. Our organization aims to streamline the delivery of aid through a pioneering mobile platform that establishes direct lines of communication between vulnerable populations and nonprofit organizations. This platform has successfully managed over 350 million messages, impacting 5 million individuals and distributing $70 million in aid across 30 countries. Our commitment to innovation continues as we integrate cutting-edge technologies like Digital Identity, Know Your Customer, and Artificial Intelligence to further enhance the effectiveness and reach of our humanitarian efforts. Join our mission to revolutionize humanitarian aid and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has life been a smooth road? Not exactly. My journey has been filled with challenges and obstacles, but each of them has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. From working with the UN and international NGOs across different continents, to launching a telecommunications startup aimed at transforming nonprofit communications, it’s been a balancing act. Add to that raising a family while supporting my wife in her own academic and professional pursuits—it hasn’t always been easy. It also doesn’t go without saying that growing up in small town Ohio was easy. I was loved, but it wasn’t always easy. I’ve been supported throughout my journey and growth.

There have been moments where I’ve questioned decisions, faced the uncertainty that comes with starting a new venture, and even struggled with balancing personal passions with professional responsibilities. Yet, through all of this, I’ve learned that the road doesn’t have to be smooth to be meaningful. Each challenge has pushed me to grow, adapt, and become more resilient. In the end, those bumps along the way have only made me more determined to create a lasting impact in the world, both personally and professionally.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Humanity Link?
In today’s fast-paced, interconnected world, nonprofits face immense challenges in staying connected with their beneficiaries, teams, and donors. The very organizations that work tirelessly to improve lives across the globe are often hindered by outdated or fragmented communication systems. Whether it’s coordinating emergency responses in remote regions, managing donor relations, or delivering critical services, nonprofits need robust, scalable, and reliable tools to operate effectively.

Take, for instance, a small grassroots organization in Kenya, delivering essential healthcare services to underserved rural communities. Their challenge? Limited access to secure communication tools that could help them better manage patient data, coordinate care, and stay in touch with their donors. For years, they relied on makeshift solutions—phones, emails, and a patchwork of apps—that couldn’t keep up with their growing needs. As their impact grew, so did their communication gaps, leaving them struggling to keep up with the increasing demand for their services.

This is where Humanity Link steps in.

Humanity Link was born from the recognition that nonprofits, large or small, need the same cutting-edge tools used by global corporations. They need seamless communication, secure payment platforms, and efficient data management systems to fulfill their missions more effectively. With Humanity Link, that healthcare organization in Kenya can now leverage cloud-based communication systems, powered by Twilio, to stay connected with patients in real-time, integrate their data securely into a CRM, and streamline their outreach efforts.

It’s more than just technology. It’s about empowering those who are on the front lines of change. Imagine a world where every nonprofit, regardless of size, has access to the same tools as the biggest corporations—a world where organizations can scale without sacrificing security, coordination, or impact.

Humanity Link does exactly that. It bridges the technological divide, ensuring that nonprofits can focus on what they do best: changing lives. We bring them the power to connect across distances, build trust with donors, and manage their operations efficiently. It’s not just about making communication easier; it’s about creating a lifeline that enhances their ability to make a difference.

As nonprofits continue to tackle global challenges—from healthcare to education, disaster relief to human rights—they need tools that allow them to scale their efforts and communicate without barriers. Humanity Link B.V. is here to help them achieve that by providing a platform that elevates their communication infrastructure to the next level. Because, in the end, when nonprofits have the tools they need to succeed, we all benefit from a better, more connected world.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Imagine a world where the global nonprofit sector no longer operates in silos, fragmented by geographical boundaries, technological limitations, or resource constraints. In the next five to ten years, the landscape of nonprofit work is set to be transformed, driven by a wave of technological innovation that connects organizations, donors, and beneficiaries like never before. At the heart of this transformation will be companies like Humanity Link B.V., redefining how nonprofits operate, communicate, and scale.

Right now, many nonprofits are facing a critical juncture. They have the passion, the vision, and the dedication to make change happen, but the tools at their disposal often fall short. The digital divide remains real, and too often, the organizations working hardest to address society’s most urgent challenges are left relying on outdated systems or piecing together disconnected tools. But this is about to change.

Over the next decade, we’ll see a shift from piecemeal technology solutions to integrated platforms that seamlessly combine communication, payment systems, data management, and real-time analytics. This shift will make it possible for even the smallest nonprofits to operate at the level of global organizations, efficiently coordinating everything from disaster response to fundraising campaigns.

Take, for example, a nonprofit working in the aftermath of a natural disaster. In the near future, they’ll be able to set up secure cloud-based communication networks within hours, enabling instant coordination between local teams on the ground and global partners. They’ll use AI-powered tools to triage requests for help, route resources to where they’re needed most, and process real-time donations through integrated payment platforms like Thunes.

But it doesn’t stop at operational efficiency. The future will bring deeper trust between nonprofits and their donors, as transparent digital systems ensure that every dollar is tracked from donation to delivery. Identity verification technologies, like Veridas, will empower organizations to ensure aid reaches the right hands, while protecting sensitive data. This transparency will build a new level of trust between the nonprofit sector and the public, spurring even greater levels of global engagement.

Storytelling itself will undergo a revolution. Nonprofits will harness these new tools not just to improve operations but to tell more powerful, real-time stories of their impact. Imagine receiving a live update on your phone, showing how your donation is helping a child get access to clean water in rural India, or hearing directly from a refugee in Europe about how the nonprofit you support helped them rebuild their life. The emotional connection will be immediate, deepening the bond between donors and causes in a way that hasn’t been possible before.

Humanity Link is not just preparing for this future—it’s helping to build it. By providing nonprofits with integrated cloud communication and technology tools, we’re laying the foundation for an era where impact isn’t limited by the size of an organization but is instead amplified by the power of technology. As the industry evolves, our work will allow nonprofits to tell richer, more immediate stories, build deeper relationships, and operate with an efficiency once thought impossible.

In 5-10 years, the nonprofit sector will no longer lag behind the tech industry. Instead, it will be leading innovations in connectivity, transparency, and storytelling. And Humanity Link will be right there, at the forefront, driving that transformation.
