Daily Inspiration: Meet Sara Haar

Today we’d like to introduce you to sara haar.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a photographer for many years, I picked up my first camera at 16 years old! I went through a lot of back-and-forth debating on if I wanted to do this job as a job or do this as a hobby. After years of wondering if I could even do it, I just kept with it and it went from a hobby to a part time job, to my full-time job!

I started out doing every photography job that came my way, but I finally decided on a niche to specialize in and I’ve been doing that for the past 5+ years. That niche is boudoir! Human empowerment is a beautiful thing to be a part of and it’s such a joy to teach and show people how amazing and perfect they already are! I just show them threw my eyes and pose them all in such a stunning way to showcase their beauty to them.

For the past 2 years now I’ve been able to turn this part-time job into my full-time job while also being a full-time stay-at-home mom to our toddler and soon to arrive daughter! And I hope to keep this job for the rest of my life, or at least until I’m ready to fully retire. Being a boudoir photographer is a gift and I’m blessed to be able to call this my job!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I went through a lot of hate at one point of my life telling me photography is only a hobby and will never be an actual career. Both from friends and family! I’ve also dealt with my fair share of hate from “clients” in the past trying to bully me into not doing what I think is right and trying to get their way. It’s taken a lot out of me at times to where I wanted to quit and give up, but I chose to learn to stand up for myself instead of giving up on myself. And doing so has brought me to where I’m at today! Which I’m beyond happy and proud of!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer! I do lifestyle, weddings, but I specialize in boudoir! Both men, women, solo, and couple’s boudoir! If I had to say something I’m known for, it would be the fact that I work with all body types, and pose them all beautifully. Which is one of the number one things I’m proud of! We live in a world where social media and Hollywood say anything larger than a size 2 is large and not beautiful. But I 100% disagree with that and I love that 90% of my clients are “plus size” humans! Curvy is stunning!! One thing that sets me apart from other boudoir photographers is that my studio is unique to me and me only! A lot of photographers rent out studios, which are stunning, but it’s not original to them. I’ve had clients book me specifically bc my studio is different than what other photographers use, and that was my biggest goal when turning my living room into my home studio!

What does success mean to you?
I define success with how happy I am! I’m happy to wake up every single day and work. Whether I have a slow month or a busy month, as long as I’m happy with what I’m doing… I’m successful in my book!
