Daily Inspiration: Meet Ming Cardwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ming Cardwell.

Hi Ming, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hello everyone, my name Ming and I’m co-owner of The Cheviot House. My husband Leroy and I opened The Cheviot House in April of 2021. The idea to renovate the first floor of an old office building came during the Covid 19 pandemic. When the governor finally lifted restrictions on large gatherings but limited the number of people at events, The Cheviot House intimate gathering space was born. We wanted to create a space where close family and friends could still gather and celebrate important milestones. All of our years of watching HG TV paid off! We loved dreaming and designing while watching these shows, so the opportunity to take an old, beat-up building and make it beautiful became our favorite project. My father is a general contractor, so he helped guide our dreams along with the amazing craftsmanship of a father-son remodeling company and local designer. The Cheviot House is also the home to a full photography studio, Cherie Arvae Photography on the third floor, The Mint Julep Mobile Bar, and The Cheviot Balloon Express. So we are a one-stop-shop for photos, bartending, and balloon decor.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No way! We learned those HG TV shows make it all look easy. We found costly hidden problems and a lot of delays due to materials being limited during the pandemic.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Leroy is a Butler County Sheriff’s deputy, and I am a work for a non-profit organization. In 2009 we founded together a non-profit organization working with youth in foster care after being foster parents for many years. So we are passionate about serving others. We are a fun couple with two sons who enjoy working together on different projects. We love setting up The Cheviot House in the evenings together for various events. We turn on a movie or listen to music while we clean the venue to make sure it’s ready to go for the next client. We paint, sanitize, and clean after each party, and we find it’s our quiet peace after long days. We love the smell of fabulouso and seeing shiny floors! Offering this beautiful space to the Westside has been a lot of fun. The city of Cheviot has given us a warm welcome.

How do you think about luck?
We don’t believe in luck, but we do believe in the favor of God. He knows our hearts and continues to show us favor even when we don’t deserve it. Because of his favor on our lives, our businesses have been blessed. The pandemic has helped a lot too ! People still want to get together but not always in a large groups so our venue is perfect.
