Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Brown.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My photography journey started very organically. When my children were young, my dad encouraged me to borrow his camera and start capturing everyday moments. At first, it was just a way to document my kids growing up, but I quickly realized how much I loved the process-finding the right light, capturing emotion, and preserving these fleeting seasons of life. What started as a creative outlet grew into a passion, and I realized I could turn something I loved into a business, and I’ve been growing it ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business while being a mom has been both incredibly rewarding and deeply challenging. One of the biggest hurdles was finding time -between nap schedules, meals, and daily routines, carving out space to focus on my business often meant working late nights or early mornings. There was also the emotional challenge of balancing my identity as a mother with my ambitions as a creative entrepreneur. I had to learn to set boundaries, ask for help when I needed it, and give myself grace when things didn’t go perfectly. On top of that, building a client base and managing the logistics of running a business—while juggling family life—was a steep learning curve. But in many ways, being a mom gave me a unique perspective and drive. It taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the importance of being fully present—skills that have shaped my business and creative work in meaningful ways.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The majority of my work is photographing families and high school seniors. I love photographing families and seniors because it gives me the chance to help people feel truly comfortable in front of the camera. Many clients come in feeling nervous or unsure of how to pose or act, and I see it as my job to create a space where they can relax and be themselves. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch someone’s confidence grow during a session and to capture those authentic, unguarded moments. For seniors, I love celebrating who they are at a pivotal time in their lives, and for families, I have a passion for preserving the real connections between them. Helping people feel seen and appreciated just as they are—that’s why I do this.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that tends to surprise people is that even though I’m a stay-at-home mom who loves cozy activities like baking, cooking, reading and being outdoors, my photography business that lets me step into a totally different creative space. Most people expect me to be behind the scenes, but photography pulls me out into the world—working with clients, capturing milestones, and expressing a totally different side of myself. It’s this unexpected mix of quiet, home-based passions and outward-facing creativity that people don’t usually see coming.
