Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Buchwald.
Hi Mark, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born into music, my grandparents were in showbusiness, as well as my immediate family including my mother, uncles, and stepfather. I would travel on the road with them and hang with the road crew. The stage was my playground, that is where I started as a drummer. When I was 18, I had an opportunity to go to Los Angeles, CA where I performed live and got to study with some great drummers including Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth & Ringo Star). After a few years out there, I came back to the Midwest and bounced around a few rock and punk rock bands. Around the late ’90s, I got an opportunity to perform percussion with electronic DJs on the club circuit. This is where I was introduced to EDM. I continued to play the drum kit live as we as a studio session drummer for hire. Around 2019, I decided to build my own home studio and start on my first album as a producer, multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer, and as an artist. In 2020 I released my first record “Echo Chambers”, which won a few awards and that featured other amazing artists from around the world. The next year I released by 2nd album title “The Abby Rose”, where I had much more responsibility in the full production including mastering. I’m still releasing singles from “The Abby Rose” and I’m also very active in SYNC arena, push my songs to TV, movies, and commercials. I also handle all the back-end business tasks and run my own label, Maximus247 Records LLC. Currently, I’ve started tracking for my third record as well as completed a couple remix/recuts for the music platform Emanate as well as a chance to collaborate and have these tracks released on deadMau5’s label, mau5Trap as well as Armada. You can hear these recuts on my Soundcloud page, https://soundcloud.com/policypalacerecordings, as well as all my music on Soundcloud and on my official website, www.policymusic.net.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the challenges along the way was the passing of my co-producer and Uncle, Mike Zaremba. Uncle Mike co-produced my first record with me but just wasn’t healthy enough to be part of “The Abby Rose”. Another challenge in general is just trying to break through the industry and markets. These days most music markets are highly saturated.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think at this point, I’m getting close to finding my own voice and sound. I’m a producer first, which carries about 18 hats of responsibilities. I’m an award-winning producer, composer, recording engineer, music business administrator, and multi-instrumentalist. I’m a drummer first, I’m also currently in the studio with a country artist coming out of West Virginia. In 2014, I won “Best Drummer” for my city in a nationwide competition. As a producer, I’ve won or at least been nominated for some cool categories including “Best Electronic Song” and “Song of the Year”. You can check out all my press and awards here.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I think success can be defined by doing what you love and where it doesn’t feel like a job. Through my musical experience and knowledge, I landed an IT computer job with no formal training back in the early 2000s. We worked on what was to become something like Pandora Radio. I fell in love with computers and now I’m Senior Software QA Specialist.
