Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Horvath.
Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for hair and nails. From a young age, I loved making others feel beautiful—it’s something that has always brought me joy. Now, being able to do that every day as a career truly feels like a dream come true.
I grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Local High School in 2020. Unsure of my next step after graduation, I wasn’t convinced that cosmetology would be a stable career, so I decided to pursue a business degree. I attended Youngstown State University and earned my associate’s degree in business, but deep down, I always knew that beauty was where my heart belonged.
That’s when I made the decision to enroll at Casal Aveda Institute and officially begin my journey in cosmetology. After graduating, I was again unsure of what was next—but through a lot of prayer and patience and constant support from my family, Sela Salon and Spa came into my life. Julie, the owner, graciously took me under her wing and offered me the opportunity to grow and learn fresh out of school. She, along with the rest of the amazing team at Sela, have taught me so much and helped shape me into the stylist I am today.
Now, I’m so grateful to be living out my dream—working full time, staying busy, and helping others feel beautiful and confident every single day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. As cliché as it sounds, the challenges I faced were necessary to get me to where I am today. There were many moments of doubt and uncertainty, constantly questioning if this was truly what I was meant to be doing. The first year behind the chair is especially tough—you’re building your clientele, still learning, and trying to find your place in the salon, all while figuring out how to balance life outside of work.
What made all the difference was the support system I had around me. I was surrounded by people who believed in me, encouraged me, and pushed me to keep going even when it got hard. For that, I couldn’t be more grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I seriously love it all—hair, nails, makeup. When I first started school, I thought I’d only focus on nails, but I ended up falling in love with doing hair too. Now I get to do a little bit of everything, and it keeps me busy in the best way.
One of my favorite things is being able to offer multiple services in one visit. If your color’s processing, I can do your nails at the same time—it’s so fun and such a great way to treat yourself! I love helping women feel pampered and confident.
What really sets me (and our whole salon) apart is that it’s not just about the service. Yes, I want you to leave with the best hair and nails you’ve ever had, but I’m also here to listen, support, and create a space where you can just be yourself. We hear a lot behind the chair, and honestly, that’s one of the best parts of this job. I’m so thankful I get to do what I love and be that person for my clients.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I was an avid golfer growing up! I played for most of my life and absolutely loved it. I even considered playing in college—who knows where I would’ve ended up if I had! It’s always so fun when I find clients who love golf too; it gives us something totally different to connect over. I’m hoping to get back into it in the next couple of years—it’ll always be a part of me!
