Daily Inspiration: Meet M. Katherine Hurley

Today we’d like to introduce you to M. Katherine Hurley.

Hi M. Katherine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a working artists in Cincinnati, Ohio for 50 years specializing in atmospheric Landscapes in oil and pastel. My scenes are from all over the globe, but my favorite is my own view of the Ohio River. I welcome commission work too.
My studio has been at The Pendleton Art Center for over 33 years. I hold weekly classes there and am open for Final Fridays from 5-9pm or by appointment.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making my living as an artist has been filled with challenges. Being able to constantly reinvent yourself, but staying diligent with your art practice is important. As the world struggles financially and morally, so does the business of art. However, art making becomes even more critical.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most known for my atmospheric landscapes, luminous colors and soft edges. Being an artists is just one of my passions. Bringing people together through the love of art brings a lot of joy to me and many others. Besides teaching, I have been the Development chair of the Cincinnati Art Club for the last three years raising $500k for our renovation and broadening relationships within our membership and regional community. Mission accomplished.

What are your plans for the future?
I will continue what I have been doing but try to travel and spend time with family.
