Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa McCraw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa McCraw.

Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love of photography. For me, photography was the ultimate story telling art form. Over 20 years ago, some friends started a wedding photography company and were doing so well, they needed someone to take their overflow business. So, I worked for them for a couple of years, learned the business, and then started my own company. I was so fortunate that it immediately took off. Next thing I knew, I had overflow business myself and began hiring other photographers to assist me.
Twenty years later (and a ton of hard work), my business continues to thrive. As the couples whose weddings we photographed had babies, we began offering family and newborn sessions and we opened a brick and mortar studio. Over the past year, we’ve been busy transitioning the wedding division of my company over to some very talented and amazing artists, whom have been with me for years. I continue to be involved in the admin duties while running the Family/Maternity/Newborn section of the business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The photography business is highly competitive. Often times pros find themselves competing for work with hobbyists. We’ve been so honored that we operate primarily off referrals. Also, weddings are emotionally charged by nature. Being a fun loving team, we’ve been able to offset some of the pressures couples feel while both planning and living their big day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a lifestyle photographer, it’s such an honor to be invited to capture life’s milestones. Over the years, I’ve been also so honored to receive many international awards. I’m so proud to have been invited to capture events all over the world. My style is more candid with some portraiture and a fashion inspired flair. For weddings, we also pride ourselves in the amount of planning we spend with couples. For family and babies, I pride myself in creating personalized themes. We strive to capture personalities, the beauty, the art, and the fun side of lifestyle photography.

What does success mean to you?
Success is defined at simply doing what you love with the people you love.
