Daily Inspiration: Meet Leslie Roach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Roach.

Hi Leslie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my hairstyling career 26 years ago, right after graduating from cosmetology school. My first job was as an assistant in a large salon, where I learned the fundamentals — from mastering the perfect blowout to delivering exceptional customer service. Those early years built the foundation for my career, and over time I worked in several salons, exploring different environments to find the right fit for both myself and my clientele.

One of the most exciting chapters of my career came when I joined the AG Hair Cosmetics Artistic Team. That role opened the door to travel across North America, educating other stylists on the latest trends, techniques, and product innovations. I had the incredible privilege of collaborating with talented hairstylists, photographers, and industry professionals, gaining invaluable experience not only behind the chair but also in the business and creative sides of the salon world.

Another unforgettable opportunity was serving as the official hairstylist for the Cleveland Cavalier Girls for seven seasons. It was such an honor to cut, color, and style their hair to ensure they looked flawless and “game ready” for every major televised event.

About halfway through my career, I made the bold decision to become a booth renter, which allowed me to strike a better balance between my professional and family life. For about 15 years, I thrived as an independent stylist, focusing on my craft and my clients.

Eventually, change called again. I teamed up with Bambi McClone, and after sharing a double salon suite together, we realized we were ready for something bigger. In May 2025, we found our dream space — a truly unique octagon-shaped salon with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the room with natural light. That’s when Foil Hair Co. was born.

Today, Foil Hair Co. reflects everything we’ve learned and loved about this industry. Our culture is hardworking, creative, supportive, and full of positive energy. Every stylist has room to shine, and together we’ve built something we’re incredibly proud of — from the ground up. I can’t wait to see where the journey takes us next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like anyone who’s spent nearly three decades building a career, I’ve experienced both incredible highs and challenging lows. There have been times when everything seemed to fall perfectly into place — when the creativity flowed, the clients were happy, and it felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be. And then there have been seasons that felt more like an uphill climb. But honestly, those are the moments where you grow the most. This industry teaches you resilience — it’s hard, and you have to keep going.

The hair industry isn’t one that pauses easily. Clients depend on you every four to six weeks, and you become an important part of how they feel about themselves. That’s a special responsibility, but it also makes taking personal time difficult. Whether it’s recovering from surgery, taking maternity leave, or simply trying to enjoy a long vacation with family, it can feel like you’re being pulled in two directions — and not everyone is always understanding about that.

Another especially challenging time was during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a difficult chapter for everyone, but for hairstylists, it was uniquely draining. We became a kind of safe space for people to share their emotions — their fears, frustrations, and uncertainty — all while navigating our own. Many of us felt burned out and mentally exhausted, but we kept showing up because we knew how much our clients needed that sense of normalcy and connection.

Through it all, I feel incredibly grateful. I get to work in an industry that’s creative, social, and deeply human. I have the flexibility to design a career that fits my life, the privilege to meet amazing people, and the joy of helping others look and feel their best. That’s something I’ll never take for granted.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist — and someone who craves creativity and all things visually pleasing — it’s only natural for me to be particular about my craft. I’ve always believed that truly understanding your canvas is essential. In hairstyling, that means mastering complexions, tones, and techniques to create results that are both flattering and unique to each client.

When I thought about what really defines my work, I actually asked a few of my clients what they’d say. Interestingly, they all gave the same answer: that my attention to detail is what sets me apart. They know when they sit in my chair, they’re going to leave with beautiful, thoughtfully balanced color because of my understanding of tone and depth — and that’s something I take great pride in.

But what meant the most to me wasn’t just what they said about the results — it was what they said about the experience. They told me being in my chair feels like spending time with a close friend — relaxed, fun, and genuine. We laugh, we talk, and by the end of the appointment, they walk out feeling lighter, more confident, and beautiful.

That’s truly what I’m most proud of — creating not just great hair, but a space where people feel good.
