Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Cannabis.
Hi Johnny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been involved with cannabis for over 20 years and started growing 15 years ago. When Ohio went medical in 2016, I launched my website & brand, OhioCannabis.com as a News, Media, & Lifestyle brand.
Now that Ohio has legal Home Grow, my entire focused as shifted to this to help new growers get set up and their new garden going.
I’m a real grower, and I’ve worked at my buddy’s grow shop for 4 years called The Indoor Gardener.
We are here to help build this new home grow community and bring the real cannabis culture to everything that people were desperately seeking.
We will be doing these Farmers Markets monthly across Ohio and also doing 2 Festival a year.
The first Festival & Farmers Market is on 4/20 in Canton, Ohio. We will have a Pink Floyd tribute band, Dark Side of the Moon, headlining. We also have The Amazing Giants – a circus act out of Columbus, and Untamed Flames – a fire & LED troupe performing at the 4/20 Festival!
We have now had thousands of people show up excited to finally get a chance to work with the plant and experience cannabis culture the way it was intended – as a grassroots, community-driven experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a media company, you usually bring in revenue through advertising. Unfortunately, the medical cannabis license holders were not allowed to pay for advertising.
I did find ancillary companies to work with to help fund everything, but because what I did was primarily focused around events, this all went away during covid.
I put everything on the back burner for a couple of years and started planning and developing things for this new home grow venture over a year ago.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve done a lot of things over the years, from being a chef to doing mortgages, water filtration as The Culligan Man, and web development.
I’ve also attended over 100+ cannabis events, worked with the companies putting them on, and gained tremendous experience.
But it has all led up to this moment where I can put all of these skills into motion to roll these farmers’ markets out flawlessly.
