Daily Inspiration: Meet Joe Rangel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Rangel.

Hi Joe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am from a musical family which started me playing guitar early on. Became obsessed with jazz as a teenager.

Graduated with a bachelors in music performance (emphasis in jazz guitar) and have been working professionally as a bandleader and sideman for over 15 years. Now primarily doing neo-soul/jazz/dream-pop type of music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles include the usual life/work balance of private life and career. But shifting musical identity and what that meant in my heart was a massive challenge that I feel will evolve again within me over time. Though now I’ve learned not to fear it.

A musician’s sound is a reflection of internal state, dictated by the presence or absence of their self work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in music performance. I am the bandleader of my own group showcasing my originals (found simply under the name Joe Rangel). I tour as the guitarist for Bassel & the Supernaturals and as the guitarist for the band Etones.

I am primarily known for my guitar work, but I sing in a lot of my work as well. I am currently most proud/excited to be performing this year with my band throughout Cleveland over the summer and looking forward to touring my unique sound nationally in the coming years.

My writing style is broad in topic, deep in content, and musically heartfelt and sincere. My greatest musical accomplishment will be to connect deeply with my audience regarding topics they may not even talk about.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Traveling and hiking out in nature with my family. Whether at home in Ohio or out west in the Rockies. I loved it all and it is still a big part of my life and inspiration to this day.
