Daily Inspiration: Meet Jared Rollyson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Rollyson.

Hi Jared, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always enjoyed taking photos as well as appreciating art. In general, I’ve always loved visuals whether its the cinematography in movies or a haunted house on Halloween or a colorful garden. As I started taking photos and getting on social media, I began to see the joy and self love that people felt after getting their pictures taken and I wanted to keep helping people see how beautiful they are as I always struggled with my image. So I’m here now getting to release my artistic freedom and to help people feel beautiful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not been smooth. I still, to this day, have a hard time with my confidence. I struggle with depression and anxiety which often leads me to doubt myself before a shoot and fear that all of the photos will come out terrible and the model or client will be disappointed. It also leads to me getting super anxious about meeting new people which can definitely be hard when you’re in a field that involves working with people. It typically all works out and leads to good results and boosts my confidence. Pain and struggle only makes art more meaningful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer. I love working with people to get as much expression from them as I can. I like to do more than tell them how to pose and smile. I like to really capture who my model/Client is and to make a beautiful work of art together. Whether it’s senior photos, cosplay or some cute couples photos, everyone has a story and passion. I’m not very well known yet but I want to be known for and what sets me apart is that I love everything from dark, moody horror and bright colorful imagery. While I can produce some great casual portraits and love doing it, what I pride myself in is walking the line between beautiful and macabre. Perhaps a gorgeous gown with some scary mask. Or a lovely boudoir shoot of a mummy or a zombie. I like to seriously challenge the norm and turn everyone into a true model, no matter their experience or background.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very shy and quiet. I went to a very small school in the country and as a little emo weirdo who loves horror and metal music, I didn’t quite fit in. I really didn’t talk much out of fear of judgement. I seriously lacked confidence and it lead to a lot of frustration and depression. I didn’t go to parties, I wasn’t on social media, and was terrified of public speaking. Photography is what got me out of my comfort zone. It got me on social media to share my art. It got me talking to people and helped me meet a lot of really cool and unique people. I finally felt confident and like I had a place in this world.
