Today we’d like to introduce you to Gage Layne
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making art at a young age and progressed into more mediums as I got older. I was pretty much free to do as I pleased as a kid and teenager which gave me the freedom to find myself. Through experimenting with LSD and shrooms i got more personalized with my art and felt a stronger connection. I decided i needed something to have my art under and i came up with you ca leave your body. I started putting that on everything i made and following 6 years at 22 years old, I started not LLC under that label. You Can Leave Your Body inc. Now at 24 I’ve had a handful of successful shows and collaborations and am working on starting a website to further push my career.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an artist is anything but a smooth road. Money and funds have always been a huge block but we find ways around it all. I would say not having much parental advisory was as good as it was bad. I’ve never really focused on the negative comments in fact i honestly love it. Being an artist is sketchy always especially if u try to only rely on it. Just need to find the good.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Aside from graphic designing and illustrations. I work in fashion as well painting and incorporate my experiences into both that being stitch work onto canvas or hand painting clothes. I also have been making my own fragrance thats about to release next week that’s an Parfum with a beautiful scent. I’m most proud of the way I picked up my style of painting portraits and such. A lot of my friends have always known about everything i do but they’re are people who only know me for my skating, people who only know me for my fashion, and people who only know me for my paintings. Being a master of none is often times better than a master of one.
What’s next?
My plans are to continue down this path of self employment and my involvement in the company “HalfBaked brew”. I just want a simply and nice life which I’ve been blessed with having. Although some would say my life is chaotic. It’s the just right that im looking for. Now all that i need to do is get better.
