Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen Asher.
Hi Eileen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Eileen Asher and I am a graphic designer and digital marketer living and working in Central Ohio. So, I’m one of those kids that knew what they wanted to do in middle school. Graphic design was the marriage between my creative brain and my type-A personality, so it stuck with me throughout my schooling. I love making logos, posters, and social media graphics. The hard part was not WHAT I wanted to design, but for WHO.
I spent the first few years of my career designing for anyone who would come my way. I’ve worked for sports companies, financial planners, and retail shops but didn’t find my nonprofit niche until COVID-19 hit. I was feeling helpless, worried, and scared, and wanted to find a way I could help. That’s when I started doing small amounts of design work for nonprofits around the U.S. I discovered that I loved working with these organizations that were always appreciative and amazed with the quality work I could give back to them.
Since then, I’ve moved on to larger projects and pivoted my business towards working exclusively for nonprofits and social enterprises. I want to work with people who are doing good work in their community. These organizations help me as much as I help them, and I couldn’t be more appreciative of that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not always. Of course, almost every nonprofit’s budget is hurting. I’m always willing to work with an organization to see how we can both build each other up, regardless of money.
Working a full-time job while also running my business does take a toll, but I’m thankful that the organizations I work with really value mental health within my process.
I’ve learned that you can’t pour from an empty glass, and I try to teach my clients that too.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a graphic designer and digital marketer. I specialize in branding and identity for nonprofits while also supporting their social media content creation needs. I am happy to work within an organization’s budget while offering payment plans or a bartering system.
I am most proud that my clients can stand out with engaging and beautiful content or branding while doing it all ethically. I pride myself on incorporating a human-centered, inclusive approach to branding.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Flexibility was crucial for my clients and I both. While they were pivoting to make their organizations run while being 6 feet apart, I was learning how we can reach their intended audience with all new strategies. It was a learning experience for all of us, and I think that flexibility to switch gears in a moment’s notice was crucial.
