Daily Inspiration: Meet Clarence “Grizzzly” Gordon, Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarence “Grizzzly” Gordon, Jr.

Clarence, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, it all started with a basketball… I’m just kidding. Ever since I was a child I have had a passion for the performing arts. It began in the choir when I was 10 years old, and grew from there ever since. Being a theatre/choir kid in my teenage years, developed into me forming bands with lifelong friends.

Then eventually making hip-hop music under the moniker “Grizzzly!!!” aka “BigBizGrizzz” for the last 11 years with lifelong friends. Now reembarking on my first love comedy. As well as finding new loves in photography, event organizing, and building bridges within the Ohio music community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, I can’t say it’s been a smooth road. Just like Gerald said once on an episode of “Hey Arnold”, “The journey is the destination”. So for me, that has been held to this day. From doubters to ended relationships, to successes, and everything in between. I perform the same songs people have told me are a joke for hundreds of people now. Nipsey Hussle was right when he said it was a marathon. Persistence is key.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician, comedian, and novice photographer lol. What I specialize in is performance art, to be honest.

Singing, dancing, hosting, acting, and rapping, don’t matter. If you give me an audience I will find a way to entertain them. Currently, I am working on my record “Uncomfortable” which is the follow-up to my previous “Couch” (On all streaming platforms lol).

I also host a weekly dance party/game night called “Wednesday Westside Boogie” at Westside Bowl in Youngstown Ohio. I go by BIGBIZGRIZZZ because I always have my hand in some project. I’m currently working with Modern Methods Brewing and Westside Bowl for a Collab beer called the “Westside Glitch” which I’m super excited about.

I’m in a band. Man, I’m always doing something aha. I’d say I’m known for being a people person or should I say of the people. I’m nothing without my community so I wear it on my sleeve. I say what I’m most proud of is never quitting, always trying to make my next move my best move. What sets me apart is my passion, I just care too much which is never enough, yanno?

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The best advice I can give someone is constantly support, reach out, and communicate. Being open is so crucial.

No matter the genre of music, type of business, or whatever keep an open mind, heart, and ear. Never go into something to get something out of it. Rather you should find ways to add value to it.

Being a kind person has gotten me further than anything possible. Good energy typically attracts good energy. I’ve learned that from the mentors and people I’ve had in my life. I’m currently where I am because of good relationships with good people.

My mentors/boss Nathan and Jami Offerdahl (Owners of Westside Bowl) are perfect examples of that. My godbrother Sean Lott (Owner of Sean Lott films) and countless others came into my life purely off support. My parents have always told me to put forth the energy I want in return. Live, long, and prosper vibes.
