Daily Inspiration: Meet April Bird and Channez Dancy

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Bird and Channez Dancy.

April and Channez, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
April Bird and Channez Dancy met while working in project management for a large industrial automation company. As their friendship blossomed they discovered they both had a love and passion for wine. Through numerous conversations, they realized that there were many wineries in Northeast Ohio that they wanted to visit, but wanted the luxury of not having to drive themselves. They quickly realized that Northeast Ohio was lacking a successful wine tour business. An idea came to mind to offer wine tours with a twist. From that idea was the birth of Dancing Birds. April and Channez are both natives of Cleveland, OH and love to have a good time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been fun but we have definitely had our share of challenges especially with 2020 being a rough year due to COVID. This caused us not to be able to do all the events/tours we had planned for that year. Another area of struggle for us is our public tour sales and really getting our name out there. So what we did was switch our focus to doing more local and virtual events so that we can really get to know our customers.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Dancing Birds specializes in providing a luxury and unforgettable wine experience in North East Ohio. What makes us most proud is that we get to connect with people who are new to wine and those who are wine enthusiasts. We enjoy doing something that hasn’t been done before and what sets us apart from others is that we are the only women and minority owned wine tour business in Ohio.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Ohio has over 254 wineries, with that being said what we like most about our city is that there are various wineries in the surrounding areas of Cleveland.

What we like least? Ha! That’s a good one. We love our city but we can’t stand the cold winters. We are summer girls. Lol.
