Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayler Brady.
Hi Tayler, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Tayler Brady. I have been painting for 10 years now and have been a gallery owner for the last 2 years. I started the art gallery when I was 25 years old, and now, I can’t imagine life without it. I wanted something different than a traditional gallery; I wanted to focus more on upcoming artists & underground artists in Columbus, OH. We do a little bit of everything at Studio 18. From paint classes to parties, to art shows, and more. We offer free community paint nights and free community yoga classes.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, especially opening the gallery with no experience and all by myself. I feel like I’m still figuring it out. It’s been challenging to do everything all on my own. Going from an artist to a business owner has been challenging in many ways, but the more it grows the more people I meet, and the more people get involved. The journey has been so rewarding, and I’ve learned so much along the way. Our focus is on community and bringing art to everyone along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m 27 years old; I’m an artist from Columbus, OH. I’ve been painting for 10 years now and specialize in murals. I took my first art class my senior year of high school and fell in love with painting. I went to college for teaching for a year and quickly realized it wasn’t the route I wanted to take at the time. I packed 2 bags and 9 paintings and bought a 1-way ticket to California to follow my dreams of being an artist. I went to Venice Beach and sold all of my paintings the very first day. After getting a studio in Huntington Beach, I met a friend who taught me how to paint cars, and eventually started my own business. 7 years later, I had a calling to move home, which is there I started the gallery. I also started painting murals and have since painted murals all over the country. I’m most known for the bright colors I use in my paintings and for my art gallery called Studio 18. I am most proud of opening an art gallery at 25 and for following my dreams of being an artist. What sets me apart from others is my will to hang in there; no matter how hard the journey, I’ll never give up on my dreams. After thinking I would never end up being a teacher because I didn’t graduate college, I now teach paint classes at my gallery and at elementary schools all over Columbus, OH. It’s been a dream come true.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Columbus because of how diverse it is and how upcoming the art scene is. There is so many amazing artists in Columbus; it is unbelievable. I am so grateful I get to share a space with them and live in such a beautiful city because of what they have created. The only thing I don’t like about Columbus is the weather!
