Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrybeth Moore.
Hi Sherrybeth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
MY STORY…
The question I was always asked was what made you pick the beauty industry, never my story. To answer first one was always easy for me this industry picked me. I always watched my mom take pride in doing her hair and make up and never left the house without it done .
She was beautiful with out it but when she got ready for the day, she always had a an extra “pep” in her step and ready to face the day attitude. See why this is so important is because I guess this is where “my story “ starts …At age 3 we left a very bad situation my biological father was very physical abusive to my mother, and he was a preacher’s son why.{ this is relevant you will see}. We lived in a church camp in Missouri. My sister was a baby , to spare details My mom put us on a train in middle of night, and we came home to my grandparents in Ohio . Who helped raise us by giving us our faith in God and support to get my mom on her feet with no job, no house, nothing but backpacks with only clothes that would fit in. So, to see her take pride and have that confidence to face the day after she put on a face and did her hair was her “ shield of armor” that I wanted. She was a superhero ! Although we had handed down clothes, no food sometimes and didn’t have heat in our house, we made it fun and slept all together in our robes and 3 pairs of socks .She faced the everyday with a pretty face and hair done.
So, I learned to do the same to get through daily life struggles, So I did my hair and make up everyday !!
So, when asked what I was going to do after high school ,I tried college. Just basics new it wasn’t for me, so I enrolled in cosmetology school and had a full-time job, went to school full-time and paid for it myself got done in a year . Took my state boards passed, worked for a co. Pro Kuts learned how to manage clients , mentored by a barber and learned so much about people, and marketing . I took all kinds of classes that were offered and built a clientele that I still have today after 30 years. I don’t remember sleeping at all . I married my high school sweetheart Chris . We had 2 beautiful kids Brooke and Camren .
Moved and grew into a more salon setting . as I was sharing my love with giving my clients their own ” shield of armor” on a daily . I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a very aggressive one.
The grace of God who had my path laid out for me had me in his hand. I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The love and support from my family, friends and clientele, co stylists was more than words can ever describe . Here I was delt a death card, bald and had 2 babies to raise and I was to do hair . But God had me in his hand this whole time and he was not going to show up for this . Through 3 years of tough, tough days I put my “shield of armor “ on with learning all about wigs, hair extensions, toppers all the hair essentials and tools out there for people going through this. Which expanded my education even more in my trade.
My surgeon also was a advocate for me to try to get my wigs which are very expensive to have insurance help with the cost .I still have a copy of the letter she wrote to them on my behalf, all this support just made me fight even harder and learn more and be more for my clientele .I went on to becoming an independent contractor and mentoring students who were in internships. Which then led Me and my business partner into opening a cosmetology school in 2008 . ELITE HAIR ACADEMY in Kettering Ohio. Again expanding my growth in the beauty industry to a whole new level.
To be able to mentor and have the ability to inspire the students on their own journeys and be the steppingstone to their success is another blessing the beauty industry has graced me with.
So to tell” my story” its still writing itself with lots of blessings and hopefully has a lot more to add.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the Struggles along the way , were of course behind closed doors being ready to face whatever mistakes that were made by ,handling them in the right way and being humble enough to except them with grace and to move forward better and stronger.
While still maintaining what was expected of myself to others .
Being able to stand alone and take accountability . Being vulnerable to learning and studying all hours after working my own chair , to the education for the students.
The challenges have shaped me into who I am today on a personal and professional level.

Elite Hair Academy is a cosmetology school .Started in 2008. located in Kettering Ohio .
Elite offers services to the public preformed by the students while supervised by instructors
Elite offers the 1500 cosmetology program as well as
the 300 manicuring program.
Elite Hair Academy has a mission and passion to give our students the knowledge and foundation of skills to become leading stylist in the beauty industry.
Elite takes pride in supporting our local salon community by offering our students an internship program.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Elite will continue to grow with beauty industry in all aspects.
We will continue to inspire and educate with the up and coming trends as they conspire with an on going growing industry .
