Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Muniz.
Hi Natalia, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In October of 2021, I started a temporary position; I worked the front desk for two weeks until they hired someone permanently. On my last day, I was asked to be the paraprofessional and assist the Intervention Specialist. After a month, I was hired on to the Promise Academy team. In the 2022-2023 school year, I moved to administrative assistant (front desk) as our previous admin assistant was promoted. I enjoyed the connection I made with the students, being the first person they had seen and greeted upon arrival. Aside from my regular duties as an assistant, I also did outreach. If a student were interested in attending Promise Academy, I would contact the parent (if the student is a minor) or the prospective student (adult age), give them details about Promise, and schedule them for orientation. I attend community and resource events and visit rec centers with our literature. Fast forward to the 2023-2024, I was offered a new position, Student Success Coordinator. In this new position, I engage a lot with students, such as in-school programs with students and field trips, and I can continue my outreach. This position has created an even stronger bond with the students and continues to build relationships with outside organizations.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has always been a smooth road for me.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Promise Academy is a non-traditional high school that offers students a flexible pathway to achieving their high school diploma. We cater to the ages of 14-21; at Promise, we are dedicated to creating a space and pathway where the students feel most comfortable and achieve maintainable goals that push them closer to graduating. We are most proud of Being a part of someone’s education and guiding them along the way. Seeing students to the end, seeing them receive their diplomas, and getting to celebrate them makes the job worth it. We spend much time with our students, watching them change and grow as young adults. It’s gratifying.
