Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Alvarez
Hi Liz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I knew I loved art when I started taking general art classes in high school. The teacher would play Jack Johnson and I would get lost in an art project. Those moments were the reason why I started exploring art as a career. At first I was going for graphic design and started going to a career tech center for graphic art my last two years of high school. Long story short, I had a conversation with a classmate about their tattoo apprenticeship and planted many seeds which caused me to want to start tattooing and seek an apprenticeship a year or so later. That was just the very very beginning. Fast forward 12 years and many hardships, learning curves, and winding roads… here I am today! In 2020 we moved to Columbus to start Blossom Tattoo Co as a private studio space and it has grown and expanded over the years!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although there is so much to be grateful for and a lot has worked out beautifully, It has NOT been a smooth road. I was so young when I started (17 years old, still in high school), so I was figuring out life and moving out on my own, meeting my husband, having kids etc. all the while trying to learn a new craft, build an art career, and then later running a business has had its challenges in figuring out balance, finding my own voice, uniqueness and just how I’m going to make it all work! I have to constantly adapt as we go and things are always changing and evolving in all aspects of life and business so that can be difficult to navigate at times!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist and I specialize in floral color work. Theres some parts realism and some parts more painterly soft looking, so I’m known for that style and specifically my flowers! I’m proud of whenever I have a client come in and tell me they had a complete stranger recognize my work on them! To me that is the highest compliment!
What’s next?
I’m looking forward to some upcoming projects with my clients, involving them and their story and my work in a catalog I’ve created and designed. We do a whole photoshoot with hair and makeup and it’s been a really good time creating that from start to finish! I would also like to plan outreach and community events and projects for kids! As well as host more guest artists in my studio!
