Conversations with Joseline Navarro

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Joseline Navarro.

Joseline Navarro

Joseline, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was originally away for school on a track and field scholarship. I got shot at a party; one hit me in the hip, which effectively ended my track and field career. I came back home, healed up, and started looking for wrestling schools.

I originally started training at Mega Championship Wrestling in Elyria, OH, and then switched over to Absolute Intense Wrestling in Cleveland, OH. I was always an athlete and competed at high levels. I decided that I wanted to try wrestling. Now, I am one of the best wrestlers out here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It’s not even close, lol. There are a lot of these in wrestling that you have to deal with as a black woman.

Racism, sexism, and standing up for yourself are oftentimes taken as “being difficult” or aggressive when really I am just a straightforward, active communicator. I’ve dealt with tons of injuries (torn PCL in both knees, broken finger, fractured hand, etc.)

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional independent wrestler. I’m known for being very fast and hard-hitting. Having a unique move set and gear that always stands out.

I’m most proud of being entertaining, when it’s time for my match you’re in for a treat. What sets me apart from others is I’m a small powerhouse but I’m also very fast. I used to run track, so I’m faster than your average wrestler and very strong. My move set is also unlike anyone else’s.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you are thinking about trying to become a wrestler, go for it. It’s tough on your body but it’s fun! The highs are HIGH!
