Conversations with Jamie Corcino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Corcino.

Hi Jamie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my cake business about 5 years ago… I was born and raised in New York City. I went to the institute of culinary education and graduated as a pastry chef. When I did the cake course, I absolutely fell in love with cakes and knew that’s what I wanted to do. I did my externship at “A love for cakes.” I learned so much there, and the owner was the sweetest person ever; I worked at a couple bakeries back in NY, but then I decided to work from home my business grew so quick to the point where people had to book me 1-2 months before they’re event. I started making 8-10 custom cakes every week. I was booked all the time. My dream was always to open up a bakery in NYC. In January 2021, my life changed completely… I lost my father due to covid. I lost motivated I just wasn’t the same anymore. I stopped making cakes and decided to stop because every time I made cakes it reminded me of my father since he would always watch me make cakes. That same month my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer… I felt like my life was falling apart., depression was slowly killing me. That same month my father passed away I decided to make him a candle since he loved candles so much. I moved to Ohio on august 2021. On October 2021, I started my candle business and made a website; it went amazing! I now decided to go back with cakes I feel like it’s time for me to make my father proud. I now have two businesses my cake business and candle business (@jamiessweetcakes & @jamiessweetcandles), and I also work for a cleaning company. Last phone call I had with my father he was crying and told me to open up the bakery and never give up on my dreams … and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was going through a lot of depression and anxiety because of my father’s death.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make candles and custom cakes from home. I’m proud of how fast I got clients.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I would love to move back to NYC to open up a bakery.
