Conversations with Hsanni Scott-Matthews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hsanni Scott-Matthews.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an Author, Poet and filmmaker, serving the globe as the CEO of my company Soul Fire Productions! At the age of 8 years old I entered the realm of creativity capturing the ability to garner the attention of an audience, even if it is family. As a their personal writer and creating a production only they had the performance to enjoy. Presently I am the author of 4 books, The Rhythm of Love, The Sands of Time now being produced as micro-drama’s; Chasing Love and Renaissance Rendezvous are poetry books. In 1993 I utilized my degree in Journalism/Communications and launched Telamon Advertising and Marketing Company in Red Oak, Georgia. That led to me launching another avenue of creativity which focused on minority travel and tourism. In collaboration with my business partner, Arnetta Gary, we created another company, Scott/Gary Communications and published a magazine, “Excursions! A Guide to Multi-Cultural Travel and Tourism. We wrote and produced a guide for international travel and published local writers as they entered the field of writing novels. In 2000, the company folded and Compass Travel was born. An internet publication well before it’s time which also focused on travel and tourism. Unfortunately, we were too early for the now burgeoning community of internet viewership and the company folded after a few months. But I am unstoppable and determined to swivel all my talents into the literature walk I have always enjoyed. In 2022, My presence as a writer caught the attention of opportunities in the film industry. I have strolled capably into the waiting arms of Keith Shaw and Donovan Deboer’s LightChaser Pictures. We have been constantly creating a name for the production of the two novellas and with Keith Shaw’s direction (as a producer with 30 years of experience in film and tv production) we are now creating virtual micro-drama productions for social media outlets. In 2023, my company Soul Fire Productions and I were selected to represent, Wright-Patt Credit Unions’ ‘Soar Program’ created to promote and help qualify, minority owned and veteran owned companies to succeed in the world of entrepreneurship.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life itself is not a smooth road, there are rocky trails, mountains to climb and hills to fall down on. My companies had to realize their own trails and those who would stay to make my creativity continue would often fall away. My creativity, however, would not. So I continued to walk the path. I have held many titles, educator, writer, publisher, business owner and at present a newly minted screen-writer and filmmaker. That means my highs and lows never really got the best of me, because nothing in life is a trip down a rosy path. But I am ready and so is my growing team of believers!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I began showcasing my ability to write early in life. I am a Story-teller. I have been recognized by winning scholarly awards while attending college, being presented in other publications in the 1970’s, my work is in anthologies in Europe, I have been on talk shows in Dayton. When Ava Duvernay’s film company ARRAY considered my first novella, “The Rhythm of Love” for an internet series, I was on cloud 9 but after 3 month’s of consideration I received a rejection email..smh that was a disappointment. However, I was also excited! To be considered by such a prestigious producer was fuel for me to continue. I was again engaged and sought after by two other film production companies and I have one extraordinary producer film producer join my company and to boot other unbelievable creatives have joined my team! This is what makes me proud, that my accomplishments have the attention necessary to eventually be seen on screen and more books to be published! Belief in oneself is what makes success a reality! We all fall down sometimes BUT WE ALL MUST CONTINUE TO GET UP!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! I have always felt that and so nothing was ever a failure for me ….it was only a push to continuance!
