Conversations with Ghutty Mac

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ghutty Mac.

Hi Ghutty , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am from Cleveland Ohio by way of Delaware and Southern Jersey. I began making music at the age of 10 but music has been my life and all around me since before I was born. I fell in love with hip hop around ‘98-‘99 and from that moment I knew that music was my calling and the only thing I wanted to do. From the first time I recorded a song (on a laptop with no mic lol) I have been addicted to the process of making music. I dropped my first official project in 2013 which led me to being a part of collectives in Cleveland, then the CreEzMxB and now The Footprint Gang. I am a full time father to a daughter who was born in 2021 and that is the most important job in my life..my baby girl means the whole world to me, which is why I keep going. I mention her because I almost stopped when she was born but the passion and the love for the music and the process kept me going and let me to releasing the best projects of my life. In 2024 I put together my first two tours of Ohio by myself and by 2025 I was blessed to perform at the rock hall be backstage at fresh fest and perform at ngenuity fest. In 2025 I was also named Artist of the year by a local podcast and blessed with my second nomination at the Ohio Entertainment Awards for album of the year (My first nomination came in 2018 with the CreeZmxb for best new group). In 2026 I have an album coming, a 420 event that is sure to make noise and many more shows and visuals to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth, I’ve dealt with collectives not seeing eye to eye and splitting up, people in my collective getting into situations that slowed (and eventually stopped) the momentum of the group and our artists and I’ve also had to deal with death, legal issues, health issues, love issues and depression along this journey

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a paraprofessional for 3rd-4th grade students with medical disabilities and students on the spectrum. I am most proud of how I connect with my students, (the ones with disabilities and the ones without) I aim to teach thru my music so the fact that I get the opportunity to help lead the next generation by the day is the most awarding part. What separates me from others is that I WAS the kids that I deal with I was the one who was always in trouble, the one who was neurodivergent and had add and so I sympathize with alot of what the students go though which at a young age is all a kid wants

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God.
