Today we’d like to introduce you to George Erastus.
Hi George, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Founded on Saturday, June 17, 2023, The Erastus Family Band started as George (dad) (at age 41) and his two sons: G.W. (at age 11) and Jude (at age 10) formed a band.
As they began their musical journey together, they quickly discovered that they had a powerful and unique sound with a three-piece Power Trio, and they have been honing their craft ever since.
As close family who each have a lifelong passion for music, their Mission From God is to share their love for life, music, and family, as they play a wide variety of music. Their songs include original music, as well as a selection of cover songs, ranging from country to western, as well as rock and roll, rockabilly, rock, hard rock, grunge rock, blues, rhythm and blues, gospel, disco, movie soundtrack songs, as well as playing a little bit of everything else, too!
This close-knit family band is available to provide their unique family blend of entertainment and music at a wide variety of events and venues, and are grateful for the opportunity to connect with people through the magic of music! Every note is a blessing which they would love to share with you!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been a few “bumps in the road,” but that is to be expected with any band. One of our biggest challenges was that when we formed the band, G-Dub did not know how to play the bass at all, and Jude was only at the beginner level of his guitar playing and drumming. So, dad had to teach them how to play their instruments, as well as the songs when we began. It was fun, but time consuming. Nowadays, the boys are able to learn most songs completely on their own.
This turned out to be one of the most rewarding parts of our band, though, because we grew closer together as we bonded through music.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since we all live together, and dad is the only one with a job, this gives us a lot of time to play music together. We try to play together every day, although sometimes life gets in the way. We set ourselves apart by playing a wide variety of songs, with the common thread being that the songs are popular, with our songs getting the crowds up and dancing and having fun. We also write our own music, and even play an original song occasionally at a gig. We have made several music videos over the years, including one with real otters for our song called “The Otter Song (Otters Gonna Ott),” which can be found on our website and on YouTube. We also like to “show off” sometimes by doing things like switching instruments, and even playing the guitar behind our back or behind our head.
What makes you happy?
Spending “family time” together makes us the most happy, and it is even more fun when we play music while spending time together.
