Conversations with Dinah Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinah Taylor.

Dinah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am actually a licensed cosmetologist by trade, my life goal stated out wanting to be a full-service salon owner, I was working at WeaveMaster Transformations Salon here in Cincinnati and we were having a 24-hour flash sale and the website went down due to high traffic and the original website designer was located in Jamaica and wasn’t answering. To not lose out on the potential business since it’s a Simi annual sale the clients had been waiting on for over a year the owner Sharon asked me to just put something on her current site just to divert the traffic to her email address for orders. After doing that and the sale was successful, she just began telling her clientele I was web designer and was accepting clients! Thus, Web Designs By Dinah was born back in 2013! I started branding myself as “Dinah Did It” (like who did your hair?… Dinah Did It, who did your website?… Dinah Didi it!) That became the business and website name. It took me a while to actually take it serious because I was still working in the salon and for another company as an insurance underwriter. In 2018 I went on lunch break on March 9 and never clocked back in! Didn’t clean out my desk, put in a resignation, say goodbye, or anything I just couldn’t make myself clock back in and I’ve been a full-time web designer ever since!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road especially being self-taught and never taking a web design class or anything so I had to learn a lot through YouTube and trial and error. I figured it all out though and have been making it work. As any self-employed business owner will tell you there are days when you have 0 sales and a negative account just trying to make the dots connect financially and then there will be days that when your sales are up and are booked and busy. Also consistency was a hard learning how to balance when and where to promo. Learning how to pay myself and manage business finances. I’m still learning over 9 years later.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a web designer I specialize in Wix and Shopify-based e-commerce and online booking websites for small businesses. I am known most for designing websites for boutiques and hairstylists. I am proud that I have been able to maintain my business by myself and stay true to my original business goal of starting a business that caters to businesses with small budgets and just getting started. What sets me apart is that I cater to the smaller businesses that may not have a giant budget to work with but they need an online presence.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
