Conversations with Brianna Mccartney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Mccartney

Hi Brianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been entranced by everything feminine since I was a young girl and as I got older it came with an immense fascination and curiosity about pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. I grew up in Texas with my mom, brother, and sister. After graduating high school I moved to California for college to get a commercial dance degree. In 2018 while in college for dance, I found myself naturally massaging my fellow dancers and decided to make a career shift and go to massage school. While in massage school I met my husband and once we graduated we moved to Akron Ohio to be closer to his family for when we decided to start our own. We got engaged and married in 2020. That same year I found myself massaging lots of pregnant women which sparked a fire to further my ability to help, comfort, and support pregnant women so I did research and landed on all this information on being a birth doula which resonated with me deeply. I ended up getting my certification through International Doula Institute by the end of 2020. In November of 2021, I started my own mobile massage business named McCartney Massage and then got pregnant in 2022, My daughter Adilynn was born on November 17th, 2022. After my birth experience, which did not go according to plan and I ended up having a C-section, it has created an even bigger passion to help women advocate for the birth they want and to be supported in every aspect of their journey so they don’t feel railroaded
the way I did due to lack of support. I love everything birth work adds to my life. I have since then started a photography company named Brianna McCartney Photography and do birth photography alongside family and lifestyle photography which just enhanced my other businesses as well.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My main obstacle if you can call it that was starting from the ground up and building a clientele and opening multiple businesses at the same time as becoming a mom myself. Adding motherhood to the mix was more difficult than I thought it would be and I had to change the entire way I conducted business from changing my hours due to childcare or even the guilt of working and being away from her. All of it has been so incredibly worth it though and knowing my daughter will grow up seeing her mother having such a work ethic and goal will only benefit her in the long run.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a mobile massage therapist with my business McCartney Massage, a Birth Doula with my business McCartney Doula Services and a birth and lifestyle photographer with Brianna McCartney Photography.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband Sam McCartney is a huge reason I am as far as I am within my business. He has been such an incredible support of my dreams and has always encouraged me to keep going even when things got hard.

I also couldn’t have done this without My mom Lisa Peters and my In-Laws Pat McCartney and Robert McCartney. Without them stepping up and providing free childcare for my daughter my business would not have been able to grow as well as it has.
