Conversations with Anthony Codispoti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Codispoti.

Hi Anthony, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Evan and I started The Film Forge in 2016 after a few years of freelancing in Columbus. We had a lot of ideas and felt we could add to the creativity of the city’s commercial work. Things started fairly slowly for the first few years, shooting music videos and small ads for local companies, but after 6 years we’ve really hit a stride and had the opportunity to create some really exciting content for global and national brands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Investing your time and money into a small business can be extremely stressful, and even now, we still have moments of “Are we doing this right?” What has always stayed consistent is our passion for storytelling, and it’s what keeps us getting up when we feel knocked down. We also have a great group of friends and colleagues in the Columbus industry, and we’re all able to lean on each other through the rough patches.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Film Forge specializes in the whole creative package as it relates to video work. We concept, produce, and edit based on the needs of our client. I’d like to believe what we’re known for, and what sets us apart, is our creativity. What gets us really excited is when someone comes to us and says, “Here’s what our goal is; go.”

I think what we’re most proud of is that we’ve still been able to focus on creative work after 6 years of being in business. It’s always tempting to chase the larger, money-making jobs that don’t require any kind of creativity, but we’re grateful to have had so many awesome clients that trust us to do our thing.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The main lesson we’ve learned through COVID is that this industry and its workers are extremely resilient. Film sets were back up and running, and with intense safety precautions, within the first month of the pandemic. Columbus truly has such a great roster of professionals who know how to get the job done safely and efficiently.
