Today we’d like to introduce you to Allon (Retro Pharaoh) Shockley.

Hi Allon (Retro Pharaoh), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Retro Pharaoh, a Cleveland based recording artist. I recorded my first song at the age of 3 and knew then that music is my calling. 2012 – 2015 I started my first local campaign dropping my first solo EP THC Relations along with 3 visuals. 2015-2021, I succumbed to my ailing mental health, which resulted in me quitting music. With the support of Ghutty Mac and Cleveland’s need for genuine lyricism I returned to the music scene in 2021. Upon my return my trajectory has been steadily rising year by year. I have been nominated finalist for Ohio Entertainment Awards lyricist of the year (2024 & 2025) as well as nominated finalist for Cleveland Scene Magazine Hip Hop Artist of the year 2025. Played 30+ shows all over Ohio and 4 shows out of state. Most recently I performed at 2026 Brite Winter Festival. Currently I’m working on The Stepfather 2 EP as well as performing at SXSW 2026 in March.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Self doubt, poor mental health, addiction, financial hardship and lack of self discipline are just some of the challenges that I have had to overcome.

I’m a recording artist, I like to think of myself as a multi genre musician that specializes in lyricism. I’m most proud of my song writing and delivery. My extensive vocabulary, style, and energy is what sets me apart.

How do you think about luck?
Luck is an integral part of my life. I’ve always been offered the best opportunities at the absolute best time.
