Community Highlights: Meet Wes Adams of Scioto Made

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes Adams.

Hi Wes, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up both of my parents were entrepreneurs and I knew I wanted to take that path as well. After years of working for various corporations, we took the leap to start our own business in 2018.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At the beginning, it started as an apparel brand with the goal of becoming a broader outdoor retailer. That changed in early 2020. The first two weeks of February 2020 was the best start to a month our company ever had followed by disaster. At one point we even considered folding the company altogether. It wasn’t until we started making masks that things turned around and change our business for the better. We made enough to keep things going and also donate masks and materials when we could. This also allow us to buy more equipment to become the company we are today.

We rebranded in late 2020 and grew to open our a retail store in August 2021.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Scioto Made specializes in designing and making bags, wallets, other everyday items. Simple designs for everyday use is the approach we take in every item we desing. We pride ourselves on building products that are functional and will last.

Any big plans?
We are continuing to grow our line of bags and expanding into travel gear. We are also growing our manufacturing capabilities and now hiring staff to work in our shop.
