Community Highlights: Meet Monique Clark of Kurv-ology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Clark.

Hi Monique, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Yes, I started off Modeling in college as a Curvy Model; I Returned home to shows and designers not representing plus and curvy women. I became that stylist /boutique Kurvology was born. Kurvology is a movement to promote self-love and continence in young girls and women thru our events, photoshoots, fashion shows, and signature pageants. I have always worked in my community in varies organizations as a mentor or trainer. I have a heart for mental wealth in women and young girls.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, so many detours along the way even though I actually taught about small business, it’s never an easy road. Not having inventory, change of vendors finding the right quality. Slow months and product changes.

We’ve been impressed with Kurv-ology, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We promote self-love and confidence in young girls and women through workshops, events, fashion show, and our pageant. I’m a certified life and confidence coach who loves to provide that to the ladies. I also started off with shapewear and corsets for curvy women. We created a sisterhood through fashion and runway. The Pageant and the bond the ladies have with each other. We have opportunities for women to join us on this journey called LYFE. Check our boutique and social media for upcoming events.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m definitively a risk-taker. Starting a business is a risk; you don’t know the outcome you work for the best. I took a risk of leaving home to go to Jackson State University with no support, but I made it (it wasn’t easy) Started a six-figure business I walked away from I took the risk to start over. I believe in taking the risk Feel the Fear and Do it anyways; it’s only two outcomes A Lesson or A blessing.
