Community Highlights: Meet M Segrist of WoodBottom Quail Farms

Today we’d like to introduce you to M Segrist.  

Hi M, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
WoodBottom Quail Farms LLC is a sustainable family farm that began in 2014 when we fell in love with all things quail. We supply the birds and eggs to high-end restaurants around Cincinnati, as well as shipping fertile eggs throughout the nation, on-farm sales, and set up for the home enthusiast. Our mobile vegetable stand, “The Pickle Wagon” can be found around Cincinnati setting up at numerous farmers markets and events, packed full of fresh vegetables, pastured eggs, handmade soaps, and our line of blue ribbon WoodBottom Farms Jams, jellies, and caramels., including our “Boozy Line” using only Kentucky famous Bourbon. WoodBottom also hosts rustic weddings in our 1830s rustic barn, 

We are strongly committed to doing things as simple as possible and we believe in the locally grown, small farm-to-table philosophy. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Beginning any endeavor has its challenges. Our attempt to put tasty quail eggs into the hands of chefs in Cincinnati eventually paid off with hard work and endurance. Our farm and products continued to grow over the years but took a major setback in 2020 with Covid regulations shutting down every farmers market and event that we participated in and restaurants we supplied. With the markets open again, we are having huge success again. As with most things, if you love what you do, it’s never considered work. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Tom and M own WoodBottom Farms, Each October, we have offered all-inclusive no cost weddings to active military members and veterans as our way of saying “thank you for your service”. 

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Quality, quality, quality. You must believe in your product and stand behind it 100%.
