Community Highlights: Meet Kylie Olney of Video by Kylie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Olney.

Hi Kylie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Ever since I was in middle school, I loved the idea of taking videos and meshing them together to a song I liked at the time. I started editing videos mainly to highlight my family vacations. (and for my own entertainment of course), which eventually led to the passion of making videos of just about anything. I upgraded from using my cellphone camera to now a nicer video camera. My first wedding video stemmed from asking a friend if I could film her day free of charge to gain experience more professionally. Her wedding day was perfect (perfect might even be an understatement) and I was so excited to edit her footage together. I posted the video on Facebook & she shared with all of her family and friends. From there, it was all word of mouth and some help due to recommendations from local photographers I knew! Now, I don’t only just film weddings, I TRAVEL while filming weddings, and film creatively for brands and personal creative inquiries. It’s really more than I could’ve asked for. I thank God for everything, he has blessed me with the greatest of opportunity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. When you really stay true to your own style and the roots of what you first started out as you can’t go wrong. After all, that’s what made people fall in love with your work, right? The authenticity. I’m always trying to be better, which some could say is a struggle, and I started out at 16. So, filming an entire wedding day was a little intimidating to say the least. I’m constantly thinking about what I could do to advance my editing style or make the next video better than the other, but learning to truly remain confident in my work has really motivated me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“Video by Kylie” is a name I came up with because I couldn’t think of anything clever, truthfully. But that’s just what it is. Videos made by Kylie. And it always has been just a passion of mine to simply, make videos. Videography is all about making people feel a certain type of way when they press play. When I edit, I hand pick certain songs to enhance a specific emotion for my audience. I specialize in wedding videography, but I can film and make a highlight video of just about anything. I’m known for capturing raw moments that sometimes the general eye doesn’t notice. I’m very personable and it shows in my videography. I am so proud that I can say I have rounded up just about the best clients ever and continue to with every inquiry. That’s what makes it fun. It isn’t just a “job,” I get to do what I love and meet the best people along the way while doing it. I’m open to so many different ideas and varieties of creative video work and am always looking to expand my horizons. Sounds basic, but the possibilities for “Video by Kylie” really are endless.

What’s next?
I’m so ready to take Video by Kylie to the next level. By next level, I mean I want jaws dropping at every video I make. Jokes aside, by next level I mean incorporating drone footage and to travel travel travel! It’s been a desire of mine since I can remember, and what’s better than filming and traveling all in one? And getting paid to do it? I mean come on. My website is in the works, (I want it to be really eye-catching) and I plan on making videos of editing and filming tips for people like me that learned on their own! I have a lot of creative videos coming and weddings I am traveling outside of Ohio for. I’m constantly thinking of new ways to advance my brand. Just know good things are coming…
