Community Highlights: Meet Kisiah Cole of Calming Souls Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisiah Cole.

Hi Kisiah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2017, I had just come back from my military training for the National Guard, (army vet) and decided that I wanted a career change but wasn’t quite sure about being in school for 4 years for a degree seeing as I hadn’t been a classroom in years. The thought was a bit intimidating honestly. So I enrolled in a local massage school. While there we had to complete a certain amount of massages at a clinic in order to complete the program. In the midst of working on people, I realized that I loved being able to help people heal. Having someone come to me with a limited range of motion in their neck and after 30 minutes with me they can move their neck with ease in all directions….. I fell in love with the gratification that I received from that. Once I graduated and became licensed I started working in a local massage clinic chain and I enjoy the experience but not the environment. I just felt like there was more emphasis on quantity and not quality.

As a therapist, I didn’t feel valued and I felt restricted on being able to really help the people who were on my table. I immediately decided that I wanted to work for myself and more importantly I wanted to work with athletes. And that’s what I did. Calming Souls Massage has been in business since 2018, with a concentration on injury prevention and recovery. Working with athletes, specifically pro and collegiate, and overall helping people maintain optimal movement in their bodies. I’ve worked at the NFL combine training 2 years in a row now and currently have pro and collegiate athletes as clients. I, of course also work with everyday people. But they mainly consist of marathon runners, cyclists, etc. Tailoring my business to a demographic that I’m passionate about has really opened up many doors and I believe people see that and as a result, have aided in building my business to what it is now and where it’s going.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. Constantly learning and readjusting. Trying to figure out the best option for my business while being the accountant, social media manager, marketer, customer service, etc can definitely be overwhelming. On top of being a new mom(recently had my baby boy in April) and going back to school to become a physical therapist…. A lot to say the least. But balance, leaning on my support system/community and learning to focus on controlling what I can instead of what I can’t, have aided me in being able to still strive to reach and surpass my goals.

We’ve been impressed with Calming Souls Massage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Calming Souls Massage is not your typical massage business.

Our services are tailored towards those who are looking to prevent and/or recover from an injury, increase mobility and agility and overall performance.

We specialize in deep tissue massage, sports massage, assisted stretching, cupping and more.

Calming Souls is different because we address every client according to their needs. No two maintenance plans look the same.

We take into account your current lifestyle and your goals for yourself and ensure we put together the best plan for that.

Whether you’re preparing for your first 5k marathon or a quarterback just wanting to be in optimal condition all year round, we have the tools and knowledge to help you be your best.

I’m so happy that my business has been able to reach so many people this year.

We were just named one of the top massage therapy businesses in the city by Expertise.com this year. That solidified that all of the hard work that has been put in has been paying off. Being able to reach more people has been very rewarding.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would say to just be tenacious. You never know who is watching or who what rooms you may be in that you know nothing about. Great things take time and patience. As cliché as it may sound just don’t give up.
