Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Bement.
Hi Katherine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Integrative Counseling and Wellness began as both a leap of faith and a long-held dream — a blend of circumstance, intuition, and a deeply rooted vision to create a space where traditional, evidence-based counseling meets holistic, integrative approaches to mental health.
Before founding my practice, I worked in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in structured, research-backed interventions like CBT and DBT, but I often felt something was missing. Over time, I became increasingly drawn to trauma-focused and mind-body modalities, becoming certified in EMDR and trained in Brainspotting, and later expanding into integrative mental health approaches that address the whole person.
My passion for women’s mental health deepened while working at a practice specializing in perinatal and postpartum care. My own experiences with postpartum mental health had already taken on profound meaning after welcoming my first baby just ten days before the world shut down in 2020. I found myself navigating early motherhood in isolation while my husband, a first responder, was on the front lines. My next postpartum journey brought its own challenges during the formula shortage, and those experiences continue to shape both my empathy and my purpose.
Integrative Counseling and Wellness was founded on empathy, integrity, and a deep respect for people and families — especially those navigating complex dynamics, trauma, or major life transitions. As a wife of a first responder and a mom of three, I understand the importance of creating a space that truly “gets it” – where clients feel seen, supported, and safe.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most meaningful things, Integrative Counseling was a labor of love and far from easy.
After a difficult and abrupt end at a previous practice, I realized I was done working for systems that didn’t align with my values. I decided to create the kind of practice I always wished existed. Graciously, a friend and trusted colleague allowed me to work at her practice while figuring out the groundwork for my own over the next year.
At the time, my oldest had just turned four, my middle was two, and I was eight months pregnant with my youngest when we signed the lease for our first office in the summer of 2024. My husband (doing the literal heavy lifting) and I spent countless late nights assembling furniture, juggling childcare, and Face Timing while piecing everything together.
Looking back, it was chaotic and exhausting but also one of the most rewarding seasons of my life. Every bit of it was built with love, persistence, and intention.
We’ve been impressed with Integrative Counseling and Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
n a world where mental health care often feels rushed or compartmentalized, I wanted to create something different. Integrative Counseling & Wellness was founded on the belief that healing happens when we honor both science and soul, blending evidence-based psychotherapy with holistic, whole-body approaches to mental health.
What started as my personal mission has grown into a collaborative team of compassionate clinicians who share that same integrative philosophy. Each therapist brings unique strengths and specialties ranging from traditional modalities to trauma-focused, mindfulness-based, relational, and women’s wellness care. Together, we support individuals and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions.
Our practice is known for being warm, grounded, and deeply client-centered. It’s a place where people feel truly seen and supported, not just treated. We’ve developed a unique intake and assessment process that helps clients reflect on all dimensions of wellness, not just symptoms. Some clients tell us they love it; others admit it made them think more deeply than they expected, but that’s exactly the point. We’re not here for surface-level change; we’re here to facilitate real transformation.
Sessions are collaborative, personalized, and responsive to each person’s needs and circumstances. Whether through traditional talk therapy or integrative techniques that connect the mind, body, and nervous system, our focus is always on helping clients find balance, empowerment, and genuine healing.
At Integrative Counseling & Wellness, we value integrity, and connection. It’s a space where clients can show up exactly as they are, and where clinicians model that same authenticity and care. Our team brings strong clinical training, but what truly sets us apart is our heart. Beyond any certification or modality, our mission is for every client to feel seen, valued, and supported as a whole human being.
I’m proud of the community we’re building – one that feels approachable, professional, and deeply human, and one that truly “gets it” for modern families balancing countless roles. At its core, this practice isn’t just about counseling; it’s about helping people reconnect with themselves and create lasting change from the inside out.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I don’t think mental health is going anywhere and if anything, the need for quality, compassionate, and integrative care will only continue to grow.
We’re seeing an increasing amount of research highlighting the mind-body connection and the profound impact of trauma and chronic stress on overall health. The links between emotional well-being, immune function, and inflammation are becoming impossible to ignore and I believe this will continue to reshape how we understand and treat mental health in the next decade.
As a clinician and practice owner, I’m committed to staying current with emerging research and modalities that best support clients in their journey and will give them optimal results.. My hope is that the industry continues to move toward a model of care that is collaborative, preventive, and grounded in both neuroscience and compassion. We need to embrace a health model where mental health and physical health are no longer treated as separate conversations.
