Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrlicia Cameron.
Hi Jerrlicia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So much of my life has always been on the go, growing up having to move often for various reason. I came to Cincinnati Tri-State area when I was 9 years old because of my mother. I finished grade school and got accepted into University of Cincinnati Emerging Engineers program straight out of high school.
Surely, I thought I was going to be a chemical engineer as math and science were my favorite subjects. Although as my life progress I found physics wasn’t my strong suit and being an engineer would take a boatload of Calculus and Physics knowledge I had yet to retain. Trying to balance out, working full time and school was tough. As my grades plummet in the engineering program; I decided to take a season off to regroup and find what I was really good at.
I had been working since I was 12 in hospitality industry so I decided to take a try at Management with Cincinnati State. By 20, I had been team lead, or assistant manager at various chain restaurants, which brought a host of knowledge and experience at a young age. Leading teams of people younger and older than me. When I finally completed my degree; I was 22 an operations manager at a private company with a newborn. I felt I hit a peak and knew that I hadn’t lived in my full purpose.
I’d always remember my aunt as a young girl saying “you’re going to be the boss” because I was outspoken and always knew what I wanted. After getting recruited for Account Executive positions building books of business, creating my own schedule; I set out to continue my education at Franklin University where I got accepted into their Master’s program for healthcare administration.
It was summer 2019 where I decided; I spent 12 years in corporate America finally I was ready to help small to midsize businesses in their development. Starting my second company Real-Time Gains Management. My first year in business; I had no sales, no clients.
I graduated at the peak of Covid January 2020 where so many small businesses were closing or needed help. I gained my first 5 clients that year that range from food & entertainment industry, childcare, and retail. That set the pace for me for future clients because I found huge success in my niche. “Ideas into concepts with flawless execution!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about being an entrepreneur is smooth! You really need a level of discipline and discernment when it comes to everything. When you’re first starting out gaining credibility, getting people to trust you with their business, deciding what your price points are.
Finding new clients, understanding where you bring added value, and delivering results. It’s like a roller coaster, especially when you’re waiting on invoices to be paid as an entrepreneur. You wear many hats until you’re able to delegate task to your team, then finding the right team to delegate to. I’ve been fortunate to have an extensive background of knowledge and experience that comes of use in a variety of industries. But I struggled starting out; my first year I didn’t have any sales, and I was honestly afraid to even have the “money talk” with people. Fast forward to today, my price is my price because I’ve found my groove and what I’m good at along with proven results. My first client was with a major notable brand where I’d say it was more like an apprenticeship/ mentorship which opened the door for so much more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
To sum up the bulk of my work; I’m a Creative Direction Coach, Analyst, Assistant, Consultant, and Liaison for small to midsize businesses. I help with businesses development, store redesigns, grant writing, marketing strategies, and content, and finding potential investors.
It’s niche because you’re not just listening to a webinar. You’re hiring me to do a needs analysis assessment, asking you the questions you haven’t answered. I’m hands-on when it comes to the development, along with my time and focus dedicated to building your business for 3-9 months depending on the company needs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say luck; but timing and being in the right place. If we went off luck, I would say I’ve had a wild card hand dealt. I’ve been successful by investing into myself, being transparent with my deliverables and knowing when to say no. I never sacrifice quality for quantity so I’m able to leverage my skills at a reasonable pace. Luck is for people who were born into a family lineage with banks loads of money. I’ve worked hard for everything; the luck for me is being mentioned in a room for your diligence to even have the next door open.
