Community Highlights: Meet Isaac Hamlin of Better Blend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Hamlin.

Hi Isaac, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, thank you for having me! My name is Isaac Hamlin and I’m a Cincinnati-based entrepreneur and founder of Better Blend.

My story started three years ago when I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a business management degree and a desire to make the world a happier, healthier place. While at UK, I was on the university’s rugby team and I knew how hard it was to find quality fuel to support my active lifestyle. This led me to found Better Blend, which offers healthy alternatives for busy people looking for something nutritious, delicious, filling, and fast.

Over time, the menu has grown and evolved, and the business has too. We started with one shop in Florence, Kentucky, and have expanded quickly into downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, and in Clifton Heights next to the University of Cincinnati’s campus. Each shop was funded by credit cards and blood, sweat, and tears, and staffed by people who are as passionate about the business as I am. Now we’re working on making franchising available and I couldn’t be more excited.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never easy and always comes with bumps in the road. Starting a business with no savings, no outside funding, no loans, etc., has been hard—and then add COVID to that. There have been a lot of challenges but staying true to the mission and the “why” has helped me get through it all. That and having a rockstar team around me! I don’t think any of this would have been possible without their hard work and dedication.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Better Blend?
Our goal at Better Blend is to revolutionize fast food. For so long, “fast food” has been synonymous with “unhealthy.” We want to change that.

We want to create a healthier and happier world through the food we eat and the environments we create. So we offer a healthy alternative to the usual greasy fast food meal: smoothies (aka “Blends”) and smoothie bowls (aka “Bowls”) that can be used as meal replacements and made in minutes. They taste like they should be bad for you, but they’re actually good for you!

Our Blends and Bowls will cost about the same as any other fast food meal, if not cheaper. Being healthy doesn’t need to break the bank.

In addition to turning the fast food world upside down, we’re also proud to be a place that is safe for people taking their first step on their health and wellness journey. Taking that first step can be intimidating, so in addition to healthy food that’s quick, delicious, and easy to consume, we’ve also created a friendly, welcoming environment in every shop. It’s important to us that everyone feels valued when they’re with us.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been committed to helping people and being someone that friends can come to with anything they need help with. I also grew up around sports and have played all kinds since I could walk. I think my compassionate nature and competitive spirit have really been the driving forces behind my career as an entrepreneur in the health and wellness arena.
