Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Bergant Harrod.
Erin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child I’d re-arrange my home and re-style my bedroom inspired by TLC’s hit show, “Trading Spaces”. This led to a decision to study interior design at Kent State University. From there, I was hired in the final semester of senior year with a small residential design firm in which I had interned with the previous summer. I worked there a few years and went on to work for a project management company. I moved on to a growing construction company in which I was their first designer and progressed to VP of the company. After losing touch with the day to day of the design, I decided it was best to take a job with an Architect. This gave me a different perspective of the industry. While working there, I started Heartfelt Homespace, Inc. on the side until I was ready, confident and had enough business to take things full time with Heartfelt Homespace, Inc.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting my company to where it is has taken lots of hours and perseverance. I’ve made costly mistakes here and there and learned from them along the way while making connections in the process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Heartfelt Homespace, Inc.?
I am a full service interior design firm. I specialize in creating homes that are a true reflection of my clients. I do not push my own personal style or preferences and really work be sure each step of the way. I strive to ensure my clients are excited about their decisions each step of the way. I incorporate feng shui in my design and especially believe my clients home needs to support their lifestyle first before the aesthetics. Aesthetics are very important but a pretty space that doesn’t function well isn’t a good design. I love to work on major home remodels, kitchen and bath remodels and finishing basements. Involving me early in the process is the best way to ensure important details are not missed and the space functions the best way possible.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think you have to bet big to win big and risks involving things you’re passionate about are worth it. Business ventures aren’t ever 100%. Hard work, perseverance and confidence will take you far. it’s essential to have support from family and friends along the way.
