Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Kayla Borchers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kayla Borchers.

Hi Dr. Borchers, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in a small, rural village in the area known as “God’s Country” on the mid-western side of Ohio. My hometown instilled deep roots of faith, strong family values, and a supportive network that still feels like home every time we go back. Born the oldest of four siblings in a family who has a line of entrepreneurs, I always had a unique lens to parenthood and business ownership.

Following High School, I came to The Ohio State University, where I received my B.S. in Exercise Science Education and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degrees. I then began working at Ohio State, a Buckeye through and through.

After the birth of my second child in November of 2021, I felt a tug on my heart to do something different. To step out on my own as a private practice owner and treat patients differently than the traditional hospital, insurance-based model. A desire surfaced to create a schedule that worked well for my growing family while still following my passion of helping others be their most healthful self. I felt called to serve the whole person, not solely the single body part written on their referral. Having more time one on one with clients to discuss their sleep, nutrition, and lifestyle activity concerns in a calm, nurturing space became my vision. A space where patients could feel immediate stress reduction upon walking into the door. What started as a small nudge soon became a burning flame that I knew I had to pursue.

Fast forward to Spring of 2022, I had coffee with Julie Wilkes, the owner of Seven Studios. Julie has been a mentor of mine for nearly a decade. I completed my Exercise Science Internship with her in 2014 and my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with her in 2018. When she mentioned a new business venture for Seven Studios coming to Grandview Avenue, I knew this was another push towards the next step in my career.

I began listening to business and marketing podcasts. Started learning how to build a website from scratch. My husband became my on-call tech support and business strategist. I did all of this after returning home in the evenings from working a full-time physical therapy position at a hospital-based outpatient sports medicine clinic. Not to mention breastfeeding an infant around the clock and parenting a toddler. Whew! The summer of 2022 certainly blew by.

With all the background work completed and the new Seven Studios location open, it became time to leave my prior place of employment in order to take the big leap of faith and officially begin my private practice journey. On August 19th, 2022, I launched my physical therapy and holistic wellness private practice – Dr. Kayla Borchers, LLC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A month in and I’m currently living out the struggles of a new small business owner! I’m learning that everything takes more time than I initially thought it would. That growth happens but is often slower than I’d like. That technology and business lingo do not come naturally to me, but gratefully it does to my husband, and I forever appreciate his support.

With these struggles comes perseverance and a lot of learning along the way. I have connected with so many other small business owners during this time who have been through similar emotions. It’s hard work, yet so very joyful and rewarding at the same time. I feel the most aligned with my values and life purpose than I ever have in my career. So, with that, I know I am in the right place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dr. Kayla Borchers, LLC?
I offer physical therapy and holistic wellness services in a cash-based practice model. This means that there are no hidden fees, and the maximum appointment cost is viewable at time of scheduling. This approach avoids surprise bills 3+ months after treatment and negates limitations placed by third-party payers that interfere with return to activity goals. A cash-based practice model puts the patient’s needs at the forefront. Following treatment, each patient has the option to submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. I work for the patient directly, not their insurance company.

As a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist in physical therapy, I have additional training in the evaluation and management of any and all joints for helping the body heal through movement. As a certified pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist, I have additional training in serving women who are pregnant or postpartum. Having had two children in the past three years, helping women in this phase of life is extremely important to me. I want others to thrive through pregnancy, to feel good staying active, and to help them reconnect with their core and pelvic floor postpartum just as I was able to. The goal here is to avoid the onset of pain or dysfunction in the first place! My holistic wellness offerings allow me to help clients and corporations with prevention and performance services that do not fall under the realm of physical therapy. Finally, I instruct community yoga classes primarily geared towards mothers and their young children. I found a need for such classes in our Central Ohio community and am so excited to connect with others in this space. All classes are listed on Seven Studios schedule, as well as my website (

What sets me apart is my holistic, comprehensive approach. During an initial physical therapy evaluation, we discuss not only your past medical history but also your nutrition, sleep, activity levels, stress management, breathing patterns, and your overarching goals in how you want your body to feel. The entire appointment is in a quiet, calm, nurturing space. I understand what it’s like to be a working parent, and that time is our greatest currency. That’s why I keep toys on hand for little ones to play with while you, the parent, are provided the treatment you deserve. You don’t have to get a babysitter to come see me. I tailor each home program routine to meet your individualized needs. There is no one size fits all, cookie-cutter approach. Each visit, each plan, and each treatment session is specifically created for that client, helping them to reach their individualized goals most seamlessly.

What do you think about luck?
The fact that my desire to create my own private practice aligned with the timeline for Julie Wilkes opening of her new Seven Studios location on Grandview Avenue could certainly be referred to as “good luck”. Though as someone who’s faith life is extremely important to her, I like to see this as another “God wink” along the path to creating a life I love.
