Today we’d like to introduce you to Demonta Brock.
Hi Demonta, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
All my life I have loved food! I grew up watching my grandparents and aunts cook, whether it be on holidays or simply putting a meal on the table for loved ones. The flavors they would put together always made me feel good and happy. Unfortunately, the kitchen was considered a dangerous place for a child so anything I seen would have to be from a distance. Growing up I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to be, everyone just said, “make sure you graduate high school and go to college “. I got my diploma, and while doing so I worked at a fine dining restaurant as a busser once I turned 18, I was able to work in the back of the house (kitchen). I liked it a lot more than my previous position, I noticed then that I didn’t like doing the same thing over and over for long periods of time, I would lose focus and interest. For me, however, in the kitchen as soon as you get seated in and comfortable things change! Then I knew I had found something I enjoyed doing. After years of working under great chefs, I decided to start my own catering business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is a commitment. I had to break old habits and transition into a more routine lifestyle. There was no more staying up late after work and sleeping in on the weekends all the time. Often entrepreneurs must still work their full-time job and raise a family while pursuing our passions. Getting things done requires one to have a set schedule. At the beginning I had a tough time approaching people about my business for no real reason, I would just get anxiety lol. That feeling went away the more I talked with clients. One struggle I know that we all have is sometimes we just do not know which way to go next.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Chef Brock Personal Chef And Catering?
My business offers high-quality food and I, the chef, work with all clients directly. Me and my team cater to all corporate office events, baby showers, birthday parties, etc. If it is about food were there! What sets us apart from others is we love what we do, and I focus on what the client wants and not try to sale them on things they have no need for. I am proud of my brand because it represents all the hard work I had to put in to get here. Readers can follow me on Instagram @thechefbrock for any catering inquiries.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being a hard worker and being adamant about being successful.
