Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Meyer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About 9 years ago, when I was able to be a stay-at-home mom, I decided to do online shopping for others. I would piece outfits and accessories together to make fashion looks. I had a passion for styling. I started promoting things that I shopped for online and got potential customers. When customers got items from me, I started rewarding them when they took pictures on social media and tagging me. They were able to get $5 store credit for each picture they tagged my brand in. I want to thank God for allowing me opportunities to be me and enjoy being a Fashion Stylist. Hard work and dedication helped me get to where I am today. Also, having faith in my brand too helped.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were a few obstacles along the way when growing my brand, Be Kurvy. The road was not smooth for me. Being a woman of color already had a disadvantage for how others viewed me. I didn’t come from money or a famous family, So I was not popular. I had to work harder just to get respect. Some people didn’t support me unless they benefited somehow. I had to use my own finances to fund Be Kurvy. I didn’t let any of that stop me. I kept pushing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Be Kurvy. Be Kurvy is a brand that allows others to express themselves through fashion. Be Kurvy specializes in clothing apparel, accessories, health and weight loss items, and business manuals. Be Kurvy is known for carrying clothing items to help those who are kurvy and need items to fit a certain way. I am proud that Be Kurvy has clothes xs-5x.
What sets Be Kurvy apart from other brands is the fact that we have been around for 9 years, and the prices are still affordable. We also have created a Male Collection and Children Collection. I want readers to know that Be Kurvy is looking to expand and create more collections.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I would go to any networking events in local areas to meet others to get potential exposure and increase in customers. Also, make business cards and flyers for the brand. This has worked well for me.
