Today we’d like to introduce you to Charita Wimberly.

Hi Charita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a Toledo Native and Graduated from the University of Toledo in 2011. I have been in the insurance industry since 2012. I originally began my career as a life insurance agent. Over the years, I have worked in sales and leadership roles. I began my journey as an Agency Owner with American Family Insurance in April 2023.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business means embracing unpredictability and staying strong through every challenge. My journey in the insurance industry has taught me the value of adapting quickly and being financially responsible. Starting with zero dollars in small business loans, I saved every dollar for 18 months to build the foundation for success. It was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done.

The insurance world is competitive and ever-changing, and 2024 brought some of the toughest moments yet—especially with high rate increases that made growth and retention a real challenge. I also had to step out of my comfort zone, network, and build meaningful relationships. Putting myself in uncomfortable positions allowed me to grow internally and gave me the strength I needed to be successful.

As you know, we’re big fans of Charita Wimberly Agency LLC . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As an Agency Owner with American Family Insurance, I’m proud to serve the downtown Toledo, Ohio community. My agency specializes in auto, home, life, and business insurance—helping families and businesses protect what matters most.

Life insurance is especially close to my heart. I’ve witnessed firsthand the difference it can make for families during difficult times, which is why I make it a priority to discuss life insurance with every client.

I’m most proud of my incredible team: Mckenzie King, our office manager, and Christina Moorer, our life insurance specialist. Their dedication and genuine care for our clients are key to our agency’s success. We work together to ensure every client has the right coverage and a professional, supportive relationship.

Insurance can be complicated, but my agency is here to guide you every step of the way!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
From a young age, I knew I was different—I wanted to make a positive impact and lead by example. Growing up, I focused on bettering myself and never settling for the status quo. My journey from the bottom to the top has shaped me into the leader I am today.

I believe that being a genuinely good person is the foundation of true success. Treating my staff and customers with care and respect is more important than any sale. I’m grateful for my amazing team, who have been with me throughout my journey as an Agency Owner with American Family Insurance.

My outlook on life is positive and ambitious. I strive to find the good in every situation and embrace change with an open mind. Discipline and accountability are my guiding principles in business and life.
