Community Highlights: Meet Caleb Kennedy of Kennedy Health And Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Kennedy.

Hi Caleb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
got started in the fitness industry because I genuinely loved training and helping people feel better. Early on, I was working out of other facilities, building relationships, and learning what actually works when it comes to helping real people—not just athletes—get stronger, move better, and feel more confident.

In March 2020, when gyms shut down due to COVID, I didn’t want my clients to lose momentum. I started training people outdoors, just doing whatever I could to keep them moving. A couple months later, the space I was using became unavailable after a flood, and that was kind of the turning point. Instead of trying to find another temporary solution, I decided to go all in and open my own place.

In June 2020, I opened Kennedy Sports Performance in a small 1,200 sq ft space in North Olmsted. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was ours—and it allowed me to create the kind of environment I always believed in: focused coaching, strong relationships, and a positive atmosphere.

As we grew, so did the vision. In January 2024, we moved into a larger 2,000 sq ft facility in North Ridgeville, which gave us the ability to serve more people and continue improving the experience.

Where we are today is really a result of consistency, trust, and the people who have bought into what we do. The most rewarding part has been seeing clients truly change—getting out of pain, building confidence, and starting to prioritize themselves again. That’s what it’s all about.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road.

I came from an athletic training background, so I understood coaching and helping people—but I knew nothing about actually running a business. Things like pricing, sales, systems, and managing people were all completely new to me.

Early on, I made a lot of mistakes. I undercharged, overworked, and tried to figure everything out on my own. There were times where it felt like I was constantly reacting instead of actually leading the business.

The biggest turning point for me was hiring a mentor. That completely changed how I operate. I started to understand that being a good coach and being a good business owner are two different skill sets—and both matter if you want to grow something sustainable.

Since then, I’ve been much more intentional with systems, structure, and long-term thinking. It’s still a work in progress, but that decision to get guidance made a huge difference.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Kennedy Health and Fitness, we’re a semi-private training facility focused on helping everyday adults get stronger, move better, and feel more confident in their bodies. Most of our clients aren’t athletes—they’re busy professionals, parents, or people who just want to feel good again and have a plan that actually works.

What we specialize in is structured, personalized coaching within a small group setting. Every client follows an individualized program based on their goals, limitations, and experience level, but they train alongside others in a supportive environment. This allows us to deliver a high level of coaching while still building a strong community.

What sets us apart is the experience and attention to detail. From the moment someone walks in, we prioritize coaching, relationships, and making people feel comfortable. We don’t just count reps—we coach movement, track progress, and make adjustments so people are consistently improving. There’s a system behind everything we do.

I’d say what we’re most known for is helping people who may have felt stuck or unsure where to start. A lot of our clients come in dealing with aches, pains, or frustration from not seeing results elsewhere—and we help them rebuild confidence and momentum.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the culture we’ve built. It’s a place where people feel supported, where showing up is encouraged, and where progress is celebrated at every level. It’s not about quick fixes—it’s about long-term change.

If there’s one thing I’d want people to know, it’s that we truly care about the individual. Everyone who walks through our doors has a different story, and our job is to meet them where they’re at and help them move forward.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are a lot of people who deserve credit for where we are today.

First, hiring a mentor was a huge turning point for me. Having someone who had already done what I was trying to do—and could guide me through the business side of things—completely changed how I operate. That support helped me build better systems, make smarter decisions, and think long-term instead of just day-to-day.

My clients also deserve a ton of credit. Especially in the early days, people trusted me when things were far from perfect—training outside, moving locations, and growing through different phases. Their consistency, belief in what we were doing, and willingness to stick with it played a massive role in building the foundation of the business.

I’m also really grateful for the team we’ve built. Having trainers who care, show up prepared, and genuinely want to help people has made a huge impact on both the experience we provide and the growth of the gym.

And then there’s the support system outside of the gym—friends, family, and people who have encouraged me along the way. Starting and growing a business comes with a lot of uncertainty, and having people in your corner makes a big difference.

At the end of the day, while I may be the one leading it, this has never been a one-person journey.
