Community Highlights: Meet Caleb Coe of Big Cat Performance & Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Coe.

Caleb Coe

Hi Caleb, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During my time as a high school athlete and going on to play college football, I fell in love with exercise and fitness. I found out I was passionate about the process- researching, testing out what worked, and implementing it for myself and for others. I decided then that being a physical therapist would allow me to blend my love for movement into a profession that uses movement as medicine to help others. During my time in PT school at the University of Dayton, I noticed gaps in the profession that did not sit right with me. Physical therapists often see 2-3 people at once, which leads to a lack of personalized, tailored care. My passion for sports medicine also led me to notice that athletes and the active population were not offered the care and resources they needed in traditional physical therapy clinics. They were bound by insurance requirements and not given the care they actually needed. I found myself thinking, if we truly care about our patients, and want them to get back to high level athletics or high-level activities- we can do better than this. This was the start of Big Cat Physical Therapy. I wanted to create a place where we could provide what is best for patients- one on one care, access to elite equipment, and without pressure of needing to appease insurance companies; a place where we could feel like we are doing what is right by our patients and helping them exceed their goals.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily. Starting a new business in an area where you have never lived or worked can be challenging due to starting out with few connections or reputation. It can also be challenging going against the grain of the more traditional healthcare model. Only accepting cash for more traditionally insurance covered services can be both challenging and exciting. Despite the challenges, we love it because it elevates our level of care. It also increases patient buy-in and commitment to the process. We are simply thankful for how far we have come in our first year.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Big Cat Performance & Physical Therapy?
We are a sports medicine private practice. We specialize in working with athletes and active individuals who want to return to high levels of activity. Our sessions are a full hour, 1 on 1 with a physical therapist- this is one of our distinguishing factors. Oftentimes physical therapy sessions range from 30-45 minutes and the physical therapist is juggling multiple patents or passing you off to an aide. This 1 on 1 attention allows us to do our due diligence, tailor the rehab specifically to the patient, and ultimately get great results faster. We also are sports medicine specialists, which is a big differentiator. We operate out of a 40,000 sqft sports performance facility, which ensures we have the equipment and environment that caters to our clientele. Too many times PT clinics do not have the equipment or resources to treat athletes and active individuals, that allow them to get back to the demands of their activity. We also offer dry needling, a recovery room, and injury prevention sessions to athletes and active individuals. Our goal is to not only be a physical therapy practice, but a place where we can serve and invest in our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Zero. We plow the fields, and God sends rain. We are so thankful and feel blessed to be where we are today and are trusting the process. We can’t wait to continue investing in and serving the community in new ways moving forward.
