Today we’d like to introduce you to Vinnie Langdon
Hi Vinnie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Northern California. I currently work in the Tri-State area. I loved acting in school plays and performing skits with my church. When I was a teenager I thought acting on TV in commercials and movies would be more fun compared to theatre. I got the opportunity to act in local TV commercials for Toyota and a local pizza commercial when I was a teenager. On my 18th Birthday my best present was my Mom taking me to a casting agency to get signed up to get more roles in movies and TV shows. I did some background work in Hollywood productions, Super Bowl Commercials, acted in over 25+ short films to this day and I really enjoy being on set to seeing the final product. Acting is something I see myself doing for the rest of my life big or small roles. I got to play a bike gang member in a film called ‘Bullets, Blades and Blood’ directed by Robert Parham that is expected to release later this year in 2025. We shot the movie back in 2015. So it will be amusing to see a “younger” me on the big screen.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say this industry is highly competitive. Sometimes you land roles based on your availability, experience, talent, or looks or all of the above. Sometimes I would audition, give it my best, be prepared, take an extra acting class and yet someone with little or no experience can get the role based on simply looks or if they have a specific talent that I do not have. I would say to someone the best advice is just to show up because you’ll already have a higher chance than someone who doesn’t.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m best known for being the host of my own talk show ‘The Vinnie Langdon Show’ that ran from 2004-2020. My show was featured on MySpace and 7 cable access TV station in California, NJ, NJ and PA. In 2006, I launched my YouTube channel and to this day have around 7K Subscribers. I interviewed emerging rock bands from Paramore, Papa Roach, Plain White T’s, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Dropkick Murphy’s and the roster of artists goes on… a little bit for everyone’s music taste. My improv skills caught the attention of major and indie record labels. Every weekend I would be at music festivals or clubs backstage interviewing bands. Although it wasn’t “acting” per-say and it was more on the “hosting” side of the business, it was still work experience for my resume. Getting comfortable on-camera with “rockstars” or “celebrity-status artists” helped me a lot with being comfortable for acting jobs. I would say what sets me apart from others is my duration of experience. I started very young at the age of 13 ‘professionally.’ Of course I took acting classes since the age of 5 and in music, too. I don’t tell too many people but I did go to college to become a Broadway actor. I studied broadway musicals, dancing, singing, and acting with Solano Community College (Fairfield, CA)’s Acting Training Program. I put my time in. YEARS. So getting into character for a performance to me is a natural process. I made my own style and use my own tools to set me apart I suppose to snap into a character. I loved interviewing bands and shooting music videos and concerts for various artists for 15+ years but acting is in my blood and something I prefer over the hosting/VJ lifestyle.
What’s next?
I really have been behind the scenes on a lot of different projects over the past few years. I do miss being in the ‘spotlight.’ I feel a lot of my hidden talents have yet to be seen in front of the camera when it comes to acting in projects. I guess I just need the right project to come along to be able to show off what I really got. I love acting as the goofy character because those are roles I’ve always been type-casted to. However, yea, I am getting ‘older’ and I wanna show people on film/tv that I am a diverse actor and can play those deep dramatic performances as well. I have several awards and recognitions from my comedic acting but I’d like to show the world, I could also play a detective on a TV drama series or play that bad guy role – which I have yet to do. I played a police officer on Discovery ID’s I (Almost) Got Away With It over a decade ago now. Those roles were fun but I always wanted to play a ‘bad guy’ for kicks!
