Check Out Tasha Kelker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Kelker

Hi Tasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Tasha Kelker. I am a yoga teacher and holistic healer that specializes in gentle movement as well as sound healing. I also have a natural beauty business named Khare (pronounced “care”) that stands for ‘Kind Hearts And Righteous Energy’, that I created in 2020. I actually started my wellness and health journey in 2012 when I was 19 years old. I went vegetarian as my New Year’s resolution and that introduced me to a world I had never seen before. I was fascinated learning about all the different forms of vegetarian/veganism as well as healthier lifestyle choices. Fast forward to 2015, I began gardening with my mom as a small hobby and a way to grow my own food, free of pesticides and hormones. Each year I expanded the garden by a few feet until it was big enough to harvest extra produce. I got a lot of interest and requests to sell my veggies which prompted me to set up a table in Highland Square in 2022. Along with veggies, I also grew lots of herbs and I would always have so much left over at the end of the season that I started thinking of ways to use them, which is when the first Khare product was produced, dandelion lotion. This lotion uses dandelions straight from my yard along with other natural ingredients. With the abundance of mint and rosemary growing, I created natural hair products. A hair oil and a hair mist, both of which are great for hair growth. A sugar and salt body scrub were then added to the product list along with a lip balm. The newest addition is a body oil that dropped this past June. I created this business with the intention of providing natural and holistic beauty products using simple, clean ingredients either from my garden or my kitchen. Every product is 2 or 3 ingredients that are easy to pronounce and you know exactly what they are. Everyday I’m looking for ways to expand my business to provide my community, as well as others, natural ways to nourish and “Khare” for themselves 🙂

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road and I’m sure any business owner will feel the same way. Since this is still a small business, I do everything myself. From harvesting the ingredients, to making the product, filling the containers, labeling the product, taking photos/videos of the product and marketing the product, preparing for market events and setting up/takingdown at those events. There have been many long, sleepless nights working on building the website, shipping out orders and preparing for market events. I say all that to say, it has been 100% worth it. I’m so passionate about my business and it really feels like my baby. Lol. I birthed this entire brand on my own and to see it grow and flourish from the beginning is so amazing. I have days where I say to myself “Wow, I’m so proud of you. You did this all on your own and didn’t give up”. Those gentle reminders help keep me going on the days I feel overwhelmed or uninspired.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a yoga teacher that specializes in gentle, beginner friendly yoga as well as sound healing. I really strive to create an open, safe space for anyone and everyone so they can relax from all the stresses of the world. I’m passionate about all forms of healing, including meditation, herbalism, reiki, crystals and of course sound healing. I also host a variety of wellness workshops. Candle making + yoga, succulent bowl making + yoga, lotion making + yoga, as well as sound baths using different instruments. I like to bring mindfulness to these workshops, so incorporating hands on activities with gentle movement. I’ve mentioned my wellness business Khare already but that also falls into this same category of wanting to help and heal others in various ways.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe in the power of communication and connection. It’s so important to treat everyone you meet the same way because you never know what can transpire between you and them. You can end up making a life long friend, business partner, mentor/mentee, etc. I’ve always loved meeting new people and learning about what inspires them or their passions so just being genuinely interested in what someone is saying goes a long way. Also, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. A lot of the connections I’ve made and opportunities I’ve had, came from me reaching out to a person, business or organization. I always live by the saying that “I’d rather look back on failures then on a list of regrets”. So if you were debating on putting yourself or business out there, do it!!!
