Check Out Lucia Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucia Smith.

Hi Lucia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
1991 was a fun year. Being born on a Saturday really set the pace for my lifestyle.

I was raised by a single mother in a very musically driven, eccentric environment with emcees, skateboarders, DJs, punks, and deadheads.

I was never destined for normality, especially in the fast carefree lifestyle of the 90s.

When I was a preteen, my love for the music world only grew into its own form and that was when I had gotten my first guitar. I completely taught myself how to play it, and had started my first band at the age of 14.

The next thing I knew, I was opening for international acts and playing every week of my life.

It wasn’t until I was in my late 20s, I began to understand how much of myself I still had to learn about. That was when the truth finally unveiled and you see the woman before you now.

I began pursuing all sorts of interests from entrepreneurial, to curative, and furthering my artistic endeavors.

I never really stop creating, no matter how small a scale.

Now into my 30s, I have a whole new, more accurate take on life, and it’s really looking like I’m only getting started. I think you guys picked a fantastic time to do this interview, honestly, and thank you again for that.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Absolutely not haha Oh, man, between the internal struggles of depression and anxiety, to suffering severe trauma, both emotionally and physically, I’m baffled how I’m even sitting here right now. It’s amazing I’m still alive.

The world has gems few and far between, but much of my life has been challenging in ways I don’t wish on anyone.

It’s made me stronger though. I’m no stranger to counting my blessings. Iron really is forged in fire, as they say.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Like I said, I have been in bands almost all of my life. I used that experience to branch out to other aspects of that field from electronic production to curating for a music venue. I’ve worked with artist of all mediums directly in collaboration or hiring for projects. I’m very motivated by graphic design and have started a long journey of designing clothing and accessories. I’m even an amateur gamer! If it involves art, I want to learn about it. I’m most proud of being a member of the first punk to ever record in a national, predominantly, hip-hop recording studio [Manimal Records]. Not a lot of people know that, but to me, that’s some serious bragging rights.

What sets me apart from others is I’m well versed in multiple talents and have shown I’m quite capable of running productions on my own. I pride myself being the person that people come to when they need assistance in their creative endeavors. That’s the dream to me: artists helping artists.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’ve never been outside of the United States and that bugs the crap out of me. That is so high up on my to-do list, because, as we all know, the older you get, the more traveling becomes a hassle. I travel quite a bit in my own time, so I think people might be a little surprised to know I’ve never needed a passport. Don’t worry, I’m working on that one! Haha
